Arila Elsie Lafountain Morin, born in Conifer, New York on January 30th, 1929, at 92 years old went to live with Jesus on April 25 th 2021. She is survived by her husband Benoit Morin and her daughter Denise Nowack, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Jean A. Bourbeau, 89
A Funeral Mass for Jean A. Bourbeau, age 89, will be held on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at 10a.m. at St. Alphonsus Holy Name Parish with Rev. Douglas Decker officiating. Burial will follow the Mass at St. Alphonsus Cemetery.

Mrs. Bourbeau passed away on Saturday, May 1, 2021, at her home surrounded by her loving family in Tupper Lake, NY.
She is survived by her children, Thomas Bourbeau, of Tupper Lake, Michelle Stevens, of Altamont, four grandchildren, Zachary, Nicholas, Emilee, and Alexandra; her sister, Catherine (Cal) Fletcher; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald Bourbeau; her parents; her siblings, Helen Brown, Phyllis Boushie, Theresa Brunette, Frank McCauley, and Estelle McMillen.
Jean was born on July 31, 1931, in Tupper Lake, the daughter of the late Roderick and Anne Kavanagh McCauley. She graduated from Holy Ghost Academy and received her diploma as a registered nurse at Champlain Valley School of Nursing.
Jean married Donald Bourbeau on September 13, 1954 at St. Alphonsus Church. Jean first went to work for the Veteran’s Administration Hospital as a registered nurse before working for Mercy Hospital, later finishing her career at Sunmount DDSO.
She loved to knit, was an avid reader, and very active in the St. Alphonsus Church. She was passionate about her sweets, especially her maple walnut ice cream, Milky Ways, and Moscato. She had the biggest heart and was dedicated to helping out everyone else no matter the cost and was the ultimate caregiver.

A Mass of Christian burial followed by a burial service in the Gale Cemetery will be held for Kenneth A. Brunette on Saturday, May 22, 2021.
The mass service will be held at 10a.m. at St. Alphonsus Church followed by the burial in the Gale Cemetery immediately thereafter.
A reception will follow the service at the VFW on Park Street at 12p.m.
Burial service: William Crouse
William Crouse who passed away on March 10, 2021 will be laid to rest at a burial service on Friday, May 7, at 11a.m. at the St. Alphonsus Cemetery.
The service will be conducted by Father Clement with full Military honors.
Arraignments are with the Frary Funeral Home.
Following the service there will be a small gathering of family and friends at the Lakeview Lanes and Foul Line Sports Bar, 1939 State Route 30, Tupper Lake.
June Zande
June Zande of Tupper Lake passed away on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at her home.
She was born Feb. 11, 1927 in Cranberry Lake to Katharine and George MacAleese. June attended the local school and graduated from Tupper Lake High School in 1944. She attended Champlain Valley Nursing School in Plattsburgh, graduating as a registered nurse in 1947.
June was employed by the Veterans Administration Hospital in Tupper Lake for nine years before it transitioned into Sunmount DDSO, where she worked for 15 years until her retirement. She earned the respect of her co-workers and supervisors for her exemplary performance and work ethic. She was even nominated by her peers and awarded “Employee of the Year” at a ceremony in Albany.
She married Augusto “Augie” Zande on Oct. 4, 1952. Together, they owned and operated Trail’s End on Raquette River Drive during the years their three daughters were growing up. At that time, it included their home, four rental cabins, boat docks and a bar/restaurant. They made many lasting friendships stemming from their business.
June was an active member of the United Community Church in Tupper Lake. Over the years, she has held the titles of deacon, elder, and treasurer.
Always having a love for art and learning, June was active in Tupper Lake’s founding Arts Group. She enjoyed working in oils, acrylics, watercolors, chalks and pencil.
Surviving are her three daughters: Donna Mathes of Syracuse, Maureen Zande of Tupper Lake and Carrie Riley of Childwold; granddaughters: Tiffany Wolf of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Brittany Proulx of Tupper Lake; grandsons: Zachary, Dominic and Gabriel Mathes of Syracuse, Richard Riley of Tupper Lake, and Noah and Jacob Sabo of Tupper Lake; three great-grandchildren: Denver Proulx of Tupper Lake and Tallulah and Waylon Wolf of Colorado Springs, Colo.
June also stayed close with her nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her husband, Augie, her parents and her sister Elizabeth Fuller.
Her family would like to thank Tupper Lake Police Department officers Kris Clark and Gage Madore and the Tupper Lake Volunteer Ambulance and Emergency Squad for the excellent care they provided June in their time of need.
A date for the graveside service in Lakeview Cemetery in Tupper Lake has been set for Wednesday, April 28 at 12pm.

Florine “Peggy” Eisele, 98
Florine “Peggy” Eisele, age 98, entered the Lord’s kingdom at the Vermont Veterans Home surrounded by her family on April 13, 2021.
She was born to Julian and Lena “Dixie” (Ward) Smith in Norfolk, Va. The family moved to Peekskill, N.Y.
After college in New York City and the beginning of World War II, she answered the call to service and joined the U.S. Navy.
In 1942, Peggy attended the Naval War College in Rhode Island and went on to serve as a cryptographer stationed at Pearl Harbor for which she was awarded a commendation for her service with the U.S. Naval Communications Intelligence Organization. Peggy was always proud of her military service.
After the war, she met and married Edward Eisele also of Peekskill, NY.
Peggy and Ed raised their family in Millwood, N.Y. She was employed at the Post Office and Bankers Trust in Chappaqua, N.Y.
In retirement, they relocated to her second love, the Adirondacks, making Piercefield their home.
Wherever Peggy lived, she enjoyed people. She was the consummate hostess and often entertained family, friends and neighbors in her home.
Peggy enjoyed her Adirondack senior hikers' group, playing bridge and traveling. She lived many years at Saranac Village at Will Rogers in Saranac Lake. During those years, she attended the dedication to the World War II Monument as well as flying to Washington D.C. with the North Country Honor Flight.
When independent living became too difficult, she moved to Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington, Vermont.
Left to treasure her memory are her children: Edward (Donna), Polly and William (Patricia). She has six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Peggy was predeceased by her husband and her parents.

Peggy was a member of St. Luke’s the Beloved Physician Episcopal Church in Saranac Lake, NY.

Peggy will rest next to her husband in the Gale Cemetery in Piercefield, immediately following the funeral service. Denise E. Leroux Benware
Denise E. Leroux Benware, 80, of Willow Lane, Gloversville, passed away peacefully at home on Monday morning, April 12, 2021 surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Tupper Lake on March 2, 1941, she was the daughter of the late William and Edna Allard Leroux.
Denise was a 1959 graduate of Holy Ghost Academy in Tupper Lake and was a longtime resident. In 1994, she moved to Mayfield to be closer to her children.
In her early life, Denise enjoyed working at a dress factory and later became a home health aide, both in Tupper Lake. While living in Mayfield, Denise was employed by Schenectady ARC working in Glenville for several years. Later, she worked at Smith Orchards in Ballston Spa along with her sister and niece.
Denise enjoyed knitting, watching soap operas, and going to casinos with her husband. Above all, she dearly loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was married to Phillip A. Benware on February 19, 1966. Sadly, he died July 11, 2020.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Wilma Lanthier.
Survivors include her children, Timothy Benware of Broadalbin and Julie Benware of Mayfield; three granddaughters, Ashley Watson of Ballston Lake, Amy Watson of Saratoga Springs, and Amber Benware of Broadalbin; three great-grandchildren, Maddox, Ahri, and Damien; a brother, William Leroux of Erie, PA; two sisters, Patricia “Anne” Cheney of Perth and Eileen House of Johnstown; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Calling hours were held Saturday, April 17, 2021 from 11-1 p.m. at Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc. 111 County Highway 106 (Corner of Route 29 and Black Street) Johnstown. A prayer service was conducted at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Jun Segura officiating. In accordance with current health guidelines, facial coverings and social distancing were practiced. Burial was held in St. Alphonsus Cemetery, Tupper Lake.

Homer P. LaVoie, 90
Homer P. LaVoie, 90, of Schodack, passed away at home on April 14, 2021.
Homer, a beloved husband and father who always gave of himself through his love, laughter and unwavering support; was “Born in a Boat House” - the name of his recently published book about growing up in Tupper Lake and the Adirondacks. Throughout his life, Homer was an avid golfer, and also enjoyed many other activities, including bowling, vegetable gardening, making jelly with the concord grapes he grew in his yard and maple syrup from his own trees. He definitely had a green thumb.
He was an entrepreneur – owning and operating Les Jeans clothing store for 10 years – and invented various useful household products.
Homer spent a number of years in the credit union and banking industry, during which time he chartered a new credit union in the early 1980’s.
He was well known in the community, served on the Town of Schodack Planning Board for nine years, and was a member of the Elks Club.
Homer came from humble beginnings, where he grew up on the edge of Raquette Pond with his sister and two brothers, losing his own father as a child.
Homer attended Tupper Lake High School where he played hockey and ran track and was always working throughout his young life. He loved being in the mountains with his family and was proud of his home town.
After high school, he joined the Navy, serving during the Korean War as a cook on the U.S.S. Great Sitkin.
He later moved to Albany and attended Albany Business College. After meeting his beautiful bride, Barbara, at the V.A. Hospital, he spent most of his life in the Town of Schodack.
When relaxing, Homer liked trips to the casino, playing cards with family, and enjoying a cold Guinness. Most importantly, and dearest to his heart was spending time with his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and the love of his life, his wife Barbara.
Along with his love Barbara Ann (Mantica) LaVoie, he is survived by his children: Yvonne Coiteux; Renee (Jim) Bult; Lorraine (Michael McNamara) LaVoie; AnnMarie (Keith) Zimmermann; John (Janet) LaVoie; Lynn (Christopher) Stephens. Eighteen beautiful grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren, in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.

Chuck passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington.
Chuck is survived by his loving wife Shelly; his mother, Leona Kavanagh; his children, Matthew Burnham (Morgan), Jennifer Burnham (Keith), Melinda Tyler, and Billie Jean Gadway; his grandchildren, Hunter, Lily, Ariana, Hailey, Wyatt, Toby, Abby, William and Gabriel; his siblings, Susan Torno (Sebold), Kim Burnham, Debbie Lizotte, Frank Burnham (Jamie), Amy Barton, Christopher Burnham, Anne Facteau (Eric), Vincent Kavanagh (Ellen), Mary Kay Amell (Roger), Phillip Kavanagh (Tina), Mike Kavanagh (Sue), Jackie McTernan, JP Kavanagh (Jeanie); and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. Charles was predeceased by his step-dad, Gerald Kavanagh; his sister, Audrey; his father, Charles T. Burnham; his grandparents, Tom and Helen Godin, Otis and Helen Burnham.
Charles was born on November 10, 1960, in Tupper Lake, the son of Leona Kavanagh and Charles T Burnham.
He worked at the Oval Wood Dish right out of high school, until it closed in 2008. He then worked for Sunmount DDSO, starting in 2009 up until he retired due to illness.
On October 14, 2017, Chuck married the love of his life, Shelly Gough.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time with his family. He was a proud husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. His family is thankful for all of the memories they shared.
A Celebration of Life will follow the service at the Woodsman’s Tavern/Grand Union Hotel, 36 Depot St., Tupper Lake.

Eleanor M. LaVigne, age 96, of Tupper Lake, passed away early Friday morning, February 5, 2021 at her daughter’s home in Palm Coast, Florida surrounded by her loving family.
A Funeral Mass will be held in the spring at St. Alphonsus Holy Name Parish with a burial at St. Alphonsus Cemetery to follow. Arrangements are under the direction of Frary-Stuart Funeral Home.
She is survived by her children, Mary LaVigne, of Palm Coast, FL and Tupper Lake, Jayne Pickering and her companion, Fred Exware, of Brasher Falls and Palm Coast, FL, John Paul LaVigne and his companion, Theresa Ellis, of Tupper Lake, and Carole Martin and her companion, Mike Arsenault, of Tupper Lake; her eight grandchildren, Jeremi Martin and Jaymi Martin, Christy Pickering Grodnitzky and husband Kevin, Jason Pickering and companion Anna Lobdell, Morgan Stevens and his wife Kristin, Adam LaVigne and Madeson LaVigne; and six great grandchildren, Hunter and Ellie Martin, Zoe, Zachary and Colin Grodnitzky and Arya Stevens, one sister, Patricia Wayne, Nanuet, NY, one brother, John Walklett, Big Bear Lake, CA and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband,
Kenneth “Guy” LaVigne in 2006; her son, Kenny LaVigne in 2003; her brother Harold LaGrave in 2005; her sister, Joanne Flanigan in 2014.
Eleanor was born on February 5, 1925 in Herkimer, N.Y., the daughter of Edward and Rose Mae Bernier Lagrave.
She graduated from Holy Ghost Academy and went on to get a Nursing Degree (RN) from Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center.
She was married to Kenneth “Guy” LaVigne for over 51 years. She worked for many years as a Nurse Administrator for Sunmount Developmental Center until her retirement in 1986.
She enjoyed sewing and knitting for her children and grandchildren. She was a wonderful cook and baker and enjoyed making all her children and grandchildren their favorite meal and dessert for their birthday. During the holidays she would be busy making meat pies, various pies, cakes, and other sweets along with a scrumptious meal for all her family to share at her home.
She was a devoted Catholic. She was a Lecturer and Eucharistic Minister for many years at Holy Name Parish.

Steven Woodbridge, 66
Steven P. Woodbridge, 66, Olean, N.Y., formerly of Tupper Lake, passed away Saturday March 27, 2021 at Olean General Hospital due to complications of sepsis.
Steve was born March 15, 1955 in Tupper Lake to Robert and Betty Woodbridge.
Steve’s love of the outdoors began as a young boy and was fueled by spending time with his grandparents at Grasse River Club in Massawepie, where they were caretakers. Countless hours were spent fishing, swimming and helping out on the grounds. Steve also enjoyed his time in boy scouts with his brother Robin when their father was their scout master. Family camping trips lead to many fun times and lifelong memories.
Steven graduated from Tupper Lake High School in 1973 and was accepted into the forestry program at Paul Smiths College. He later transferred to NCCC where he graduated in 1976 with an AAS in biological technology which he put to use when he began working as a laboratory technician at Mercy General Hospital in Tupper Lake.
On June 10, 1978 Steve married the former Darlene Spoor in Tupper Lake. The marriage later ended in divorce.
Steve relocated to Stroudsburg, PA and found employment as a lab tech in East Stroudsburg.
On December 16, 1983 Anna Eskenazi and Steve were married in Stroudsburg. They would become parents to two children. The family later move back to New York State and settled in Whitesville.
Steve worked for the Town of Independence in the water department as well as being their dog warden. Upon the end of the marriage Steve moved to Olean where he was self employed as a carpenter and helped his friend Bob Howard at this funeral home.
Steven is survived by his children Danny and David Woodbridge, both of Olean, one brother, Robin (Ann) Woodbridge of Rutherfordton, NC, three sisters, Maureen (Edward) Merrill, Champlain, N.Y., Paula (David) White Massena and Lauree (Joseph) McShea of Heathsville, VA. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, his Aunt, Louann Mason of Florida and many good friends.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am Friday April 9, 2021 at Letro McIntosh Spinks Funeral Home in Olean. Glenn R. Flagg, 82

Glenn passed away late evening on Thursday, April 1st, 2021, at his home surrounded by his loving family in Tupper Lake.
Glenn is survived by his loving wife Theresa Flagg; his five children, Sue Ann Flagg, of Tupper Lake, Richard (Audrey) Flagg, of Tupper Lake, Mary Ann Flagg (Kevin Dustin), of Durhamville, N.Y., Gene Paul Flagg (Michelle Pickering), of Tupper Lake, and Raymond (Patti-Ann) Flagg, of Tupper Lake; twelve grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren with another one on the way; and many nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents; his sister, Ethel (Pat) Forschein; and his brother, Leo Jewtraw.
Glenn was born on January 21, 1939, in Saranac Lake, the son of the late Moreland L. and Bessie Jewtraw Flagg.
He attended Saranac Lake High School. Glenn married Theresa Liberty on May 12, 1962 at St. Alphonsus Church with Rev. Lamatie officiating. He served in the Army Reserves for eight years.
Glenn worked for the Veterans Administration in Tupper Lake for six years before working for New York State at Sunmount DDSO. After 36 years, Glenn retired in 1995.
Glenn was a kind, loving, generous man with a great sense of humor. He had a passion for gardening and giving to his community. When Glenn began work at Sunmount he became BSA’s Troop 100 leader and then proceeded to work with Tom Jermano in orchestrating a marching band.
In 1973, he was instrumental in the growth of the Tupper Lake Youth Hockey Association, coaching until he was 62. He served many in the community in various ways throughout his life, but most importantly, along with his wife, he raised their five children and several foster children in Tupper Lake and lived for his family.

Stuart W. Burnett, 69
Stuart W. Burnett, age 69, passed away at his home in Tupper Lake on March 29, 2021.
His battle in recent years with a serious illness related to his exposure to agent orange during the Vietnam War exemplified both his strength and courage.
Stuart was born on June 14, 1951 to Amy Laplante Burnett. At the very young age of 17, Stu joined the U.S. Marine Corps and was sent to Vietnam in 1969.
He finished his tour and returned home. It was then that he met and married the love of his life, Rose Marie (Lamica) Burnett. Together, they had three children: Stuart Jr., Corey and Candice.
Stu spent his life in the service of others. He was a proud husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. He worked as an electrician for Sunmount until he retired. Then in his retirement, he enjoyed working at the Lake Eaton Campground and for the St. Alphonsus Church. He was always fixing someone’s roof, plumbing, electrical... anything that needed to be done.
He spent decades as a volunteer for our community. He was a dedicated member of the fire department, the Rescue Squad, and the Dive team for many years. His sense of duty to others and his community was engraved into who he was and how he will be remembered. He was also an avid hunter, coin collector and enjoyed being a Civil War Re-enactor.
Stu was so many things. He was somebody who commanded the room when he entered. He was loud and strong.... he was fierce in both protecting and loving his family... he worked harder than anybody and gave freely to those around him. He was a proud provider and a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was a master story teller and had the best laugh. He was kind, honorable, proud and lest we not forget how stubborn he was.
Stuart is survived by his wife Rose, his son Stuart Burnett Jr and his wife Kelly of Tampa, FL, his son Corey and his wife Melissa of Tupper Lake, his daughter Candice and her partner James Dear Jr. of Constable, N.Y. and his daughter, Mariah and her fiancé, Kevin Beaudette of Tupper Lake. He is also survived by many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, sisters, brothers and friends that will forever hold him in their hearts.
It was Stu’s wishes to not have a service. Donations can be made in his name to the Tupper Lake Rescue Squad. Stu considered the medical professionals on that squad to be family. His family will forever be thankful for the many times they came to his aid, including the final call in which they fought so hard for him.

Jacob Lanthier, 37
Jacob Lanthier, age 37, of Peoria, AZ died on March 18th, 2021 in Peoria, AZ. He was born April 6th, 1983, to Keith and Kathy Lanthier in Albany, NY.
Jake graduated from Colonie Central High School, class of 2001, and went on to earn his MBA from the Florida Institute of Technology in 2015. He was the proud owner of Whispering Dragons, IT Solutions servicing the Phoenix, AZ area and member of the South West Valley Chamber of Commerce.
Jake had a passion for video games and loved gardening, cooking, hiking, and his dragon collection. He was known for his quick wit, infectious smile, and never met a stranger.
He is survived by fiancé, Samantha Anthony, sisters Sarah Hintze and Emily Johnson, nephews William Hintze and Calvin Johnson, parents Keith and Kathy Lanthier, and grandparents Robert and Joanne Russell.
He was preceded in death by grandparents Joseph and Wilma Lanthier from Tupper Lake, NY.

Danna Louise Lonergan
Danna Louise Lonergan, 68, of Tupper Lake, passed peacefully in her sleep at home surrounded by family Sunday, March 28, 2021.
She was born February 24, 1953, at Mercy Hospital in Tupper Lake, the daughter of late Daniel and Louise [Cote] Jessie. She had three siblings, Adrien (Louis) Jessie, Allen (Cheryl) Jessie and Debra (Larry) Jones.
She attended the Junction School in Faust from K-6, then attended Tupper Lake High School and received a GED diploma. On April 4, 1992 in a private ceremony at their home, with friends and loved ones, she married William Lonergan, who survives.
She owned/operated the Lakeview Motel and retired from Sunmount DDSO after many years of providing direct care in the community. She enjoyed going to Florida in the winter and being surrounded by family, spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and friends. She also enjoyed fishing, playing cards, going to the casino, feeding wild animals, and shopping.
She is survived by her husband, William; daughter, Christine Danussi; daughter and son-in-law, Rachel and William Dechene; son and his partner, Derric Benware and Sabrina Shipman; all from Tupper Lake.
Danna had six grandchildren: Lindsey (Matthew) Merrihew, Maegan (Chase) Kavanagh, Bill (Samantha) Dechene, Sarah (Patrick) Barrett, Colton Benware and Cooper Benware; and eight great grandchildren; Audrey and Emmitt Merrihew; Vincent and Duke Kavanagh; Elijah, Carter, and Maple Dechene, and Owen Barrett. Danna is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
She was predeceased in death by her parents and her brother; Adrien.
She was someone who would help and be there for anyone. Her love showed with anything that she did. She was always willing to give you advice, whether you asked for it or not. Her proudest moments included acquiring her GED, and occasionally accomplishing a prank on her daughter Rachel. She was proud of all her children and extremely proud of all her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A service will be held at a later date with burial at St. Alphonsus Cemetery in Tupper Lake.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember Danna may make memorial contributions to the Tri-Lake Humane Society or High Peaks Hospice.

Carol Plumley, 80
Carol Reta Plumley, 80, of Jensen Beach, FL, passed away peacefully February 28, 2021.
She was born in Tupper Lake, N.Y., May 23, 1940, to Fredrick and Grace Savard.
Carol graduated from Tupper Lake High School in 1958, and earned her cosmetology license. She was a career hairdresser operating her own establishment, Carol’s Beauty Care.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Gary, and four children: Jay Plumley (Lynn) of Herkimer, N.Y.; Angela Gardner (Joe) of Mint Hill, N.C.; Laura Bishop (Dave) of Hastings, N.Y.; and Paul Plumley (Allison) of New Milford, CT.
Carol is also survived by 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored. In addition, she leaves behind two sisters, Barbara Lantiegne and Althea Boushie, who Carol looked up to and loved spending time with. She is predeceased by her parents.
Carol was a long-time member and Eucharistic Minister of St. Alphonsus Parish in Tupper Lake. She enjoyed outdoor activities, baking for her family, sewing, and countless needlework projects.
In the Florida sunshine, she cherished having coffee on the porch with Gary, where they would sit and visit.
A memorial service will be held June 26, 2021, 11 a.m. at St. Alphonsus, immediately followed by burial at the church cemetery.

Stephen Edward Smith, 79
Stephen Edward Smith, 79 years old of Keene, N.Y. left this world peacefully on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at The Mercy Living Center in Tupper Lake.
Steve was born to Napoleon “Buck” Smith (a.k.a. the Old Man which he fondly called his Dad) and Anita LeClair Smith on July 30, 1941.
He grew up in Keene surrounded by many relatives in The Little House on the Gilmore Hill Road.
After high school he joined The United States Army to serve our country proudly.
Steve enjoyed a wide array of trades and hobbies including auto mechanics, auto body, carpentry, masonry, gardening, maple syrup production, and berry harvesting. He was pretty much a jack of all trades, master of everything. Just ask him.
Steve was also an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing in The Adirondack Mountains. He was a great story teller for those who didn’t know this and was quite the comedian. He loved helping people and most would say “Steve would give you the shirt off his back, if you needed it, but not the hat off his head”. This was very true about Steve.
One of Steve’s favorite things to do was play horseshoes with his uncles and cousins on the back hill or share a conversation over a cold beer in hand (his hands were the size of Bear Paws by the way).
Steve is pre-deceased by his loving and patient wife Ada Hare Smith, his parents, “The Old Man” and Anita Leclair Smith, his beautiful sisters Shirley Dixon and Gracelyn Murphy. He was also pre-deceased by his brother in law Patrick Murphy, his brother Tarry Wilcox and infant brother “Scottie” Smith who went to heaven when his Mom Anita passed away while pregnant with her fifth child and by his most cherished companion, Remington, a beagle that never left his side.
Steve is survived by his sisters Martha “Marti” Hadley and her husband Leigh of Saranac Lake, Anita Smith of Savannah, Georgia, Kristy McKoy and her husband Curtis of Raleigh North Carolina, brother Travis Smith of Westport, N.Y., brother in law Richard Dixon of Lake Placid and sister in law Anita Wilcox of Lewis
Steve loved and adored all his children: Michelle Smith and her companion James Howerton from Harkness N.Y., Michael Smith from Upper Jay N.Y., Matt Smith of Lake Placid, Mark Smith and his wife Lisa of Keene, Mitch Smith of Syracuse N.Y., Melvin Smith of Keene and Mary Smith of Lake Placid.. All seven of Steve’s children have the initials M.M.S. How creative is that. Steve has twelve nieces and nephews along with numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren which make for a large family to say the least.
Funeral arrangements are being made by the children through Heald’s Funeral Home in Elizabethtown, N.Y. A memorial service will be announced at a later date where Steve and his loving wife Ada who passed away last year. They are together once again.

Lynn M. Hurteau, age 61, passed on Wednesday, March 17, 2021, at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. . A burial will take place at a later date in Stevens Cemetery, Skerry, NY, at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Frary-Stuart Funeral Home, Tupper Lake, NY.
Lynn is survived by her wife, Mary Ellen Lafratta Hurteau of almost 10 years; three step-children, John (Courtney) Maloney, Matthew (Jackie) Maloney, and Daniel Maloney II; two grandchildren, Ryon and Zoey; her three brothers; Wayne (Nami) Hurteau, Terry Hurteau, and Michael Hurteau; her nephew, Peter Hurteau; niece, Lisa (Joe) Keegan; five great- nieces and nephews, Jeffery K. Hurteau, Allen Hurteau, Nikaio Thomashow, Kenya Lovill, and Ryan Mulcany. Mrs. Hurteau was predeceased by her parents, Milton and Ginnie Hurteau and a nephew, Jeffery A. Hurteau.
Lynn was born on September 3, 1959, in Tupper Lake, the daughter of the late Milton James Hurteau and Virginia June Marshall.
Lynn married her wife, Mary Ellen Lafratta, on November 6, 2001 in Tupper Lake. She worked as a supervisor of NY OPWDD at Wassaic Development Center in Wassaic, N.Y.
Lynn enjoyed carpentry, playing the guitar, volunteering for the Tupper Lake Rescue Squad, being a Special Olympics Coach, being an avid bowler, softball player/ coach, and her love of dogs.

Nonia Marie Gilbert, 95
Nonia Marie Gilbert, age 95, passed away early morning on Tuesday, March 16, 2021, at Mercy Living Center in Tupper Lake. Visitation will be held at Frary- Stuart Funeral Home in Tupper Lake on Friday, March 26, 2021 from noon to 2p.m.. A funeral mass will follow at St. Alphonsus Church at 2:30p.m Internment will take place in the Spring at St. Alphonsus Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Frary-Stuart Funeral Home.
She is survived by her three daughters; Carolyn Gilbert of Glendale, CA, Michele Richardson of Tupper Lake, NY, and Judith Baker of Ogdensburg, NY; four grandchildren, Clyde Thomas, Paul Baker, Amy Foote, and Cassandra Richardson; seven great grandchildren; and four great- great- grandchildren. She was predeceased by her former husband, Paul Gilbert, her children, Maryellen Gilbert and Steven Gilbert; and her siblings, Goldie Haskins, Elsie Akins, Opal Meredith, Edith Brown, Elma Thompson, and Edmund Ketchum.
Nonia was born on August 10, 1925, in Augusta, Illinois the daughter of the late William Jacob Ketchum and Naomi Moss Ketchum.
She graduated from Augusta Community High School in 1943. Mrs. Gilbert married Paul Gilbert on April 19, 1947 in Ogdensburg, NY.
She owned Gilbert Print Shop in Flackville, N.Y. with her husband. She did private home health care after closing the print shop and later volunteered as a foster grandmother at the local elementary school, LP Quinn School.
Nonia enjoyed being a master baker, gardening, being an avid reader, playing cards, being a social butterfly as well as traveling with family. She served at St. Phillips & James Alter Society in Lisbon, NY. Mrs. Gilbert had a love of cardinals, collecting many different items.
