Nonia Marie Gilbert, age 95, passed away early morning on Tuesday, March 16, 2021, at Mercy Living Center in Tupper Lake. Visitation will be held at Frary- Stuart Funeral Home in Tupper Lake on Friday, March 26, 2021 from noon to 2p.m.. A funeral mass will follow at St. Alphonsus Church at 2:30p.m Internment will take place in the Spring at St. Alphonsus Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Frary-Stuart Funeral Home.

She is survived by her three daughters; Carolyn Gilbert of Glendale, CA, Michele Richardson of Tupper Lake, NY, and Judith Baker of Ogdensburg, NY; four grandchildren, Clyde Thomas, Paul Baker, Amy Foote, and Cassandra Richardson; seven great grandchildren; and four great- great- grandchildren. She was predeceased by her former husband, Paul Gilbert, her children, Maryellen Gilbert and Steven Gilbert; and her siblings, Goldie Haskins, Elsie Akins, Opal Meredith, Edith Brown, Elma Thompson, and Edmund Ketchum.

Nonia was born on August 10, 1925, in Augusta, Illinois the daughter of the late William Jacob Ketchum and Naomi Moss Ketchum.

She graduated from Augusta Community High School in 1943. Mrs. Gilbert married Paul Gilbert on April 19, 1947 in Ogdensburg, NY.

She owned Gilbert Print Shop in Flackville, N.Y. with her husband. She did private home health care after closing the print shop and later volunteered as a foster grandmother at the local elementary school, LP Quinn School.

Nonia enjoyed being a master baker, gardening, being an avid reader, playing cards, being a social butterfly as well as traveling with family. She served at St. Phillips & James Alter Society in Lisbon, NY. Mrs. Gilbert had a love of cardinals, collecting many different items.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mrs. Gilbert’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association at 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
