Eleanor M. LaVigne, age 96, of Tupper Lake, passed away early Friday morning, February 5, 2021 at her daughter’s home in Palm Coast, Florida surrounded by her loving family.
A Funeral Mass will be held in the spring at St. Alphonsus Holy Name Parish with a burial at St. Alphonsus Cemetery to follow. Arrangements are under the direction of Frary-Stuart Funeral Home.
She is survived by her children, Mary LaVigne, of Palm Coast, FL and Tupper Lake, Jayne Pickering and her companion, Fred Exware, of Brasher Falls and Palm Coast, FL, John Paul LaVigne and his companion, Theresa Ellis, of Tupper Lake, and Carole Martin and her companion, Mike Arsenault, of Tupper Lake; her eight grandchildren, Jeremi Martin and Jaymi Martin, Christy Pickering Grodnitzky and husband Kevin, Jason Pickering and companion Anna Lobdell, Morgan Stevens and his wife Kristin, Adam LaVigne and Madeson LaVigne; and six great grandchildren, Hunter and Ellie Martin, Zoe, Zachary and Colin Grodnitzky and Arya Stevens, one sister, Patricia Wayne, Nanuet, NY, one brother, John Walklett, Big Bear Lake, CA and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband,
Kenneth “Guy” LaVigne in 2006; her son, Kenny LaVigne in 2003; her brother Harold LaGrave in 2005; her sister, Joanne Flanigan in 2014.
Eleanor was born on February 5, 1925 in Herkimer, N.Y., the daughter of Edward and Rose Mae Bernier Lagrave.
She graduated from Holy Ghost Academy and went on to get a Nursing Degree (RN) from Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center.
She was married to Kenneth “Guy” LaVigne for over 51 years. She worked for many years as a Nurse Administrator for Sunmount Developmental Center until her retirement in 1986.
She enjoyed sewing and knitting for her children and grandchildren. She was a wonderful cook and baker and enjoyed making all her children and grandchildren their favorite meal and dessert for their birthday. During the holidays she would be busy making meat pies, various pies, cakes, and other sweets along with a scrumptious meal for all her family to share at her home.
She was a devoted Catholic. She was a Lecturer and Eucharistic Minister for many years at Holy Name Parish.
