David C. Dukette

Dan McClelland

Taken from this world far too soon, David Carl Dukette passed away at home on February 4, 2022, surrounded by his family.

Dave Dukette, the son of Carl Dukette and Thelma Rice, was born on August 21, 1952, in Tupper Lake.

As a boy, David was an avid boy scout, eventually making it to Eagle Scout, which came in handy later, as he always loved to hike, camp, canoe, hunt, and fish.

After graduating from Tupper Lake High School in 1971, Dave worked for Big Tupper Ski Area as a lift attendant, and later helped cut trails with Ted Desmarais, his second father who he loved dearly. Dave continued working with Ted as a logger, cutting logs on the skidway with the Desmarais boys at Whitney Park.

While doing these jobs, Dave was also a roadie and did lights for the band, Heritage (later known as Hammerlok), touring with them to high schools, colleges, and local bars throughout the North Country. Dave learned how to play bass guitar and got the chance to perform on stage with Lee, Jeff, and Carrie Gonyea, Timmy Paymount and Dave’s best friend, Mickey Desmarais. He thought he could be a singer too, but the band members would always turn off his microphone when he sang (which Dave didn’t realize for a while). Jokes about this continued over the years, always making Dave laugh. While in the band, Dave met his first wife Louise Bureau, had two children (Jessica and Jeremy), and started working with her father in construction.

A few years later took a state job and went on to work for 29 years at Sunmount Developmental Center, first in the kitchen and housekeeping, but then as a general mechanic, a position from he retired.

After marrying his second wife, Lauri (Klossner), in 1990, Dave and Lauri lovingly raised their five children together in Tupper Lake.

For over 30 years, Dave was a volunteer with the Tupper Lake Fire Department, Rescue and was captain of the Tupper Lake Dive Rescue. When the scanner went off, Dave was out the door in record time. Dave also helped his wife with the Adventurers 4-H Club, a group of 12 children…who all became like family to him.

David wasn’t much of a traveler, but after Lauri packed up the car, kids, and told him to get in, he always had fun. During one trip to Brazil to meet the family of Teddy and Vanessa Desmarais, Dave became a star (or so he thought). Total strangers who did not speak English, repeatedly asked Lauri to take their picture with Dave, who all thought he was Paul Teutel from Orange County Choppers. Dave even signed autographs!

Dave always enjoyed riding his Harley, driving his boat, attending family reunions, drinking tequila, and enjoying the sunshine. He took karate and received his brown belt.

He spent many summers with family and friends at Horseshoe Lake, his favorite camping spot. He was also extremely active with the Tupper Lake Christian Community Church.

Dave is survived by his loving wife, Lauri, and youngest daughter Kaileigh Dukette of Tupper Lake; his daughters Jessica Clark of Clayton, New York, and Danielle (Nicolas) Amell of Lisbon, New York; his sons Jeremy (Michelle) Dukette of Tupper Lake, and Alec (Jennifer) Fee of Clifton Park, New York; his siblings Linda (Paul) Gaff, Beatrice (Richard) Whitman, Gloria (Larry, Harold) St. Onge, Jean (Shawn) Kelly, and Richard (Marsha) Davis; his grandchildren, who Dave took incredible pride in, Hailey Woodward, Sydney and Landon Clark, Jackson and Leah Dukette, and Ethan and Sophia Amell; two exchange students, Romana Cabajova (from Slvekia) and Dulguun Bayaraa (Mongolia); along with his faithful, furry companion, Cruces.

Dave was preceded in death by both his parents, his brothers Gary (Joanne) Davis, Earl (Shirley) Dukette, James (Sharon) Dukette, and his sisters Elizabeth (Paul) Larche, Rita (Leonard) Reandeau, Loretta (Jalbert) Lavoie, and Ester (Ronald) Lamica.

Dave will be greatly missed by many and is forever in our hearts. Calling hours will be Thursday, February 10, 2022, at 11 a.m., with a noon memorial service to follow at the Tupper Lake Christian Community Church. After the service, a reception will be held at the Knights of Columbus, with tequila shots on Dave. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Tupper Lake Fire Department, Rescue and/or the Tupper Lake Dive Rescue.

Livestream will be available at https://www.emmanuelenid.org. Services and complete cremation care are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home. Full Military Graveside services will be held in The Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia, as scheduling allows.

Born on July 17, 1929 in upstate New York, Bob Lines fell in love with flying at a young age, obtaining his pilot license before graduating high school. Tired of the cold weather, he moved to Houston, Texas to attend college at the University of Houston. There he met a young student, Anne Acker, from Rice University and they married in 1952. The Korean war called and needed a young Air Force fighter pilot and off he went to pilot training in Del Rio, Texas, then to war. Forty-six missions in Korea were soon followed by 105 missions in Vietnam, where he flew the F-105 Thunderchief, one of which now resides on Vance Air Force Base in Enid, Oklahoma.

During that time, he had three sons, and taught them just the right amount of discipline, love, and respect for others. He traveled the globe with his family, spending twelve years overseas in Korea, Thailand, Okinawa, England, and Turkey. His sons moved twelve times before graduating from high school. His favorite place to be stationed was Vance Air Force Base in Enid, Oklahoma, where he served as base commander from 1972-1974. After 31 years and 8 months, Colonel Lines retired from Bergstrom Air Force Base, Austin, Texas in 1982 as a distinguished fighter pilot and American hero. Throughout his military career, he was awarded the Silver Star, the Bronze Star, 3 Legion of Merit awards, 4 Distinguished Flying Crosses, 3 Meritorious Service Medals, and 14 Air Medals, having flown 18 different aircraft.

In 1983, he returned to Enid, Oklahoma where he worked for Northrop Worldwide Aircraft Services as Division Manager until 1994. His wife, Anne, preceded him in death in 2006, after 53 years together. While in Enid, Bob Lines served as City Commissioner, member of the Airport Advisory Board, Enid Police Commission, Vance Development Board, and Bass Hospital Board.

In 2009, he married the second love of his life, Marsha Tatham. Traveling the world together on multiple boat and train excursions, they stayed active in their local church where Bob was the Treasurer for many years. One of his favorite pastimes was to spend his mornings, drinking coffee with friends at Woodring Airport, Enid. He loved his family, his friends, and Jesus. He passed away peacefully at home with his wife at his side, on January 30, 2022.

He is survived by his wife Marsha, sons Bob Jr. and Kathy Lines, Marc and Polly Lines, and Bill and Sandra Lines, and grandchildren Meredith, Jefferson, Perry, Harrison, Tanner, and McKenna; step-daughter, Jana James; step-grandchildren Tarah, Jordan, Michael, Canaan, McKeelyn, Ava, and great-grandchildren, Everleigh and Laylah.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Larry Smith, who gave wonderful, loving care in dad‘s last days; to his longtime friends Dr. Roy and Janet Camp, and all the fighter pilots who flew with dad, especially Ed Skowron.

In the words of his favorite poem High Flight, by John Gillespie McGee, Jr., Bob has “Slipped the surly bonds of earth…put out his hand and touched the face of God.”

In lieu of flower memorials may be given in his honor to the Enid, Garfield County, Fraternal Order of Police Lodge # 144 with Brown-Cummings Funeral serving as custodian of the funds.

David Johnson

Dan McClelland

David Wesley Johnson, of Tupper Lake, passed away on Thursday, January 20, 2022.

He is survived by his wife, Beth Nichols Johnson; his brother, Tony Johnson and wife Beth Kiley Johnson, along with his children and stepchildren: Marco Johnson and his wife Anne Magnan, Paul Johnson and his wife, Marilyn, Susan Johnson, Derek Gagnier and his wife Lara Marshall, and Kirk Gagnier and his wife Debby.

He also leaves behind many dearly loved grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

David was predeceased by his father, Hugh B. Johnson, mother Ida, and his older brother, Hugh Johnson.

David spent summers in his youth at the family camp on Raquette River Drive in Tupper Lake, where he, siblings and friends slept in tents on the hills behind. He always loved Tupper Lake and was well known for many episodes as a teenager.

At age 14, he and cousin Charlie Emmons canoed from Old Forge to Tupper Lake, enduring mosquitos, long portages and hot summer nights in their tent. In later years he and friends got their long-regretted tattoos at the local carnival, and once, they were caught by their fathers in a pool hall. Such events dearly tried his mother’s patience.

Always a lover of music, he was a proficient pianist in his youth, and a member of the Washington-Lee high school chorus, in Arlington, Virginia. The chorus performed at Harry Truman’s inaugural party, and a photo was taken of the chorus with Lena Horne.

As an undergraduate at The University of Rochester, he was social chair of his fraternity, Delta Kappa Epsilon (Deke), and he once persuaded Dave Brubeck to perform all night at the frat house after a local gig.

David graduated from University of Rochester in 1954, and married Maureen Lee, of Rochester, N.Y.

Following two years in the US Army, he entered Columbia Law School. He practiced law in New York City for 16 years, and after many summer vacations, and ski trips in winter, David moved with his family to Tupper Lake permanently in the early 1970s.

During his years practicing law in Tupper Lake, he was well known for his compassion, sense of humor, and judgment-free manner, expressed on the job and throughout his life. His work ethic was second to none, and his caring ways led him to do a great deal of pro bono work for a great many people and organizations. He was a law guardian for unfortunate young people, always generous with his time. He accepted everything from a raspberry pie to a load of wood in lieu of a fee at times.

He and his wife Beth were married in 1983. During their time together, they filled their lives with music, art, and their love for travel. David shared his love and knowledge of jazz with friends and family. He enjoyed singing in the Adirondack Chorus. He was also an avid stamp collector.

David and Beth traveled extensively over the years. An avid athlete, he enjoyed snow skiing, water skiing, hiking, and bicycling. He founded the Tupper Lake Kite Flying and Water Ski Club and brought the sport of flying huge kites behind motorboats to the lakes and ponds of Tupper Lake. Friends and acquaintances will remember the kiting competitions held on Raquette Pond in the 1970s.

He loved teaching kids how to water ski, and many adults fondly remember those sessions from their childhood.

During his professional career in Tupper Lake, he served on the boards of a great many organizations: the Tupper Lake Chapter of the American Red Cross, Franklin County Children’s Legal Services, Franklin County Bar Association, North Country Community College, Tupper Lake Chamber of Commerce, High Peaks Hospice, Inc., Franklin County Arts Council, Lake Placid Center for the Arts, and Adirondack Community Trust. He was a long- time member of the Tupper Lake Lions Club. He was attorney for the Town of Tupper Lake and the Town of Piercefield for many years.

Possibly his most treasured position was as a founding member of the Board of The Wild Center (Natural History Museum of the Adirondacks.) He delighted in each step of the lengthy process of building that great facility in Tupper Lake.

During the last few years, when David was ailing, he lived at Neighborhood House in Keene Valley. The superb facility boasts a most caring and dedicated staff. He was lovingly spoiled by the employees and relished in dessert every day for lunch and dinner.

No funeral is planned. A celebration of his life will take place at the Wild Center in Tupper Lake on May 21, 2022, at 5:30 pm. Everyone is welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to The Wild Center, Neighborhood House, or to Elizabethtown Hospital.

Randall and Martha were the best grandparents any child could ever ask for. They would spoil him not only with love but provided him with necessities and an abundant number of toys. He made it a point to visit with Noah every single day. They brought Noah and the family on vacations. Kalahari waterpark was one of his favorite places and he acted like a young man, riding slides, and enjoying the lazy river! Papa loved to bring Noah to the playground, and out for walks. Noah never went without. In Nov 2019, his second grandson Owen Johnson was born, and he was the apple of his Papa’s eye! He loved his grandchildren and loved to provide for them.

Randall and Martha remained together, until death did them part. Martha passed away January 16, 2020. To say he missed her terribly is an understatement. They are together again.

Randall was predeceased by his brother Ward, his father Curtis, mother Madeline, his brother Michael, sister Sandra and Diane. Randall is survived by his brother Curtis (Scott) his wife Linda, sisters Roseanne, Patricia, and Joanne, his two children Nicholas Rolley, his wife Amy Rolley and Jessica Rolley (Johnson) and her two children, Noah, and Owen.

Randall had said over the past two years for no one to be upset over his departure from this earth when the time came. His soul will be reunited with Martha, his soulmate and they will spend eternity in heaven together.

Although Randall wasn’t involved with the church as often as he wanted, he was still a very spiritual man. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Tupper Lake fire department and Tupper Lake rescue squad are welcome. Randall’s services will be on February 8, 2022, at Frary Funeral home, at 24 Cliff Ave in Tupper Lake from 11a.m. to 1p.m.
