Dorothy attended Holy Ghost Academy and graduated in 1959. She then went on to the Utica School of Commerce. She worked at the dress factory in Tupper Lake then at Sunmount DDSO as a Developmental Aid and in her later years she was a caregiver for the elderly.

She was an avid reader, loved to crochet and bake sweet treats for her family. Her Christmas breakfast was fantastic!

She also enjoyed a great cup of coffee with her closest friend, Connie Pickering.

In the words of her son, Larry, “There are many things I wanted to say but the one thing that keeps coming back to me is that Mom was always there. Always. It didn’t matter if she was busy, tired or not feeling well. Nothing we said went unheard or forgotten. You could be in a store with her in June and say you like something and that something you’d forgotten about would be under the tree at Christmas. The love she had for her family and close friends was the driving force of her life, and anything she could do for us was her greatest pleasure. She was the most giving, caring person I know. Mom was always there, and now she isn’t. We can rejoice that she is at peace with our Lord, and that the void left by her passing is filled by a piece of her in the hearts of those that knew and loved her.”

Friends and family wishing to make donations in Dorothy ‘s memory can be made to Tupper Lake Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 901, Tupper Lake, 12986 or The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation online at www.cff.org or mailed to The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation 4550 Montgomery Ave., Suite 1100 N, Bethesda, MD 20814.

David Klossner

obit.jpg

Surrounded by the love of his family, David Patrick Klossner entered eternal life on September, 26th, 2020. Taken from this world far too soon by pancreatic cancer, his light, love and presence will be missed by many. A true family man, David's legacy lives on through his wife, children, and grandchildren, as well as extended family and friends.

Born on July 3, 1961, in Rome, New York, David was the son of Geraldine and Reynold Klossner and grew up in Tupper Lake.

David was an all-star athlete in high school football, went on to play collegiate football at Northwestern Oklahoma University, along with several years with the Watertown Red & Black semi-professional team. During training camp for the Houston Oilers, David experienced a knee injury thus ending his professional football endeavors. David also spent several years as a competitive powerlifter and coach in upstate New York.

Like his father, David was a skilled and talented craftsman, carpenter, and mason, evidenced by everything he did personally and professionally.

Dave+Lake.jpg

David began his career in corrections at the Texas State Prison, then in 1990 he started working at the Federal Corrections Institute (FCI) in Ray Brook, New York.

In 1994, Dave (and his three children from a previous marriage) met his wife, Katie, and shortly after transferred to FCI in Englewood, Colorado. Katie and David were married on December 31, 1996, in Lake Placid.

David and family lived in Castle Rock, Colorado, from 1995 to2012, where David was very active in the community with Castle Rock Players, and as a football coach (Dolphin Youth Football Association, CRFD vs. CRPD Turkey Bowl fundraiser, and Douglas County High School).

After 21 years, multiple career awards, and life-long friendships, David retired from FCI. In 2012, David and family moved to Commerce Township, Michigan, where he discovered a new career passion as a facility director for various senior living communities.

In early 2018, Dave’s dream of having a cabin on the lake came true. He spent as much time as possible fishing, kayaking, swimming, and enjoying lake life with family and friends. In the summer of 2019, David and family returned to Castle Rock, Colorado, to be closer to his son, better medical support, and their church family.

David is survived by his wife, Katie, and youngest daughter, Ellie Klossner, of Castle Rock, CO; his oldest daughter Micah Klossner Bartocha (Tony) of Edwards, N.Y.; his son Dakota Klossner (Christina) of Fruita, CO; his daughter-in-law Tanya Klossner of Hokes Bluff, AL; his 'Italian daughter' (exchange student) Giulia Orlando of Rome, Italy; his mother, Geraldine Klossner of Tupper Lake; his siblings, Rey Klossner of Gatesville, TX, Reggie Klossner (Becky) of Hilton Head, SC, Deborah Klossner of Canastota, NY, Robert Klossner (Beckie) of Constantia, NY, Lauri Dukette (David), Dennis Klossner (Tracy), and Chris Klossner (Erin) of Tupper Lake; six beautiful grandchildren, many loving nieces and nephews, and other family relatives. David was truly blessed with so many good friends everywhere he lived or worked, especially close family friends Chuck and Cheryl Voyles (of Lone Jack, MO).

David was preceded in death by his son, Logan Klossner, his father Reynold Klossner, his siblings Sandra and Daniel Klossner, his in-laws Bob and Bobbie Damp, and his ex-wife Jerri Lynn Roots.

With the current COVID travel restrictions for New York State, the Tupper Lake service will now be held at a later date. There will be a memorial service at New Hope Presbyterian Church in Castle Rock, CO, on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at 2pm. In addition, a celebration of Dave’s life will be held at his beloved lake cabin in Michigan in spring/summer 2021.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a college fund for David’s youngest, Ellie: http://bit.ly/dklossner

Dorothy was the oldest of seven children born to Sarah Elsie LaCeseraia and Walter Roy Eggsware in their home in Titus, N.Y. on June 1, 1935. When she was seven years old, her family moved to Childwold, where she attended the one room school house. Dorothy continued onto Tupper Lake High School excelling in her studies and joined the girls’ basketball team.

Dorothy married John Clifford LaPlante and the two built a home in Childwold and raised three children. She was a wonderful homemaker. She gardened, baked and was a meticulous seamstress, making clothes for herself and her family. She worked various jobs, cooking at Dumas’ Restaurant and being a cashier at the Grand Union Grocery Store. Eventually she and John purchased and ran the Bartlett Pair Motel.

After their marriage ended in divorce, she remarried Loren Hakes and moved to Massawepie. She continued her education taking college courses at North County Community College studying psychology.

In 1978 she moved to Tupper Lake and she took a job at Sunmount working with profoundly mentally and physically handicapped patients. She genuinely enjoyed caring for those who needed so much love and nursing care. She especially liked working on the unit with the younger patients, some as young as five. She enjoyed hiking mountains, fishing and canoeing down the Raquette River. During our long winter months she enjoyed snowmobiling, cross country and downhill skiing.

The time spent with her grandchildren were truly the happiest moments in her life. She became a huge part of their lives. Watching them grow, graduating from high school and college. Dorothy had fond memories of teaching them how to drive, celebrating their weddings, and numerous other memorable events. She even got to meet and hug a few of her great grandchildren.

Michael A. Graham,70

Now there is a bit less music, laughter, tall tales, some true, and good times because of the lost of a really great guy!

Michael (Mike) Arthur Graham, 70, passed away quietly in his home in Mesa, Arizona on Sunday, September 13, 2020. He will be buried next to his wife, Sandra at Green Acres Cemetery in Scottsdale, Arizona on Friday, September 25, 2020. A celebration of life memorial is planned for Saturday, May 15, 2021 COVID permitting.

Michael was born to Arthur and Joan (Martin) Graham of Tupper Lake on May 18, 1950. He was one of the founding members of the local rock and roll band, “The Penthouse Sweet”, with other teenage boys from town. In a flash they became wildly popular in the town, the nearby communities, and in Northern New York.

“The Penthouse Sweet” played danceable jazzy rock and roll music popular in the day. “The Sweet” did not bring rock and roll to Tupper and the Adirondacks but they exploded it onto the scene. “The Sweet”, Michael, and other boys in the band gained instantaneous popularity. In the blink of an eye Michael went from being “out,” not being in the “in crowd”, The Jocks and flashing unruly kids in the State Theater with a flashlight to loads of back-talking to becoming one of the coolest kids in town as one of the front men for “The Sweet” on stage.

It can be strongly argued that “The Penthouse Sweet” was the most popular thing to ever happen to Tupper Lake even more so than Big Tupper Ski Area. Their popularity happened so more quickly and encapsulated almost every teenager and young adult, and yes, some adults too from town and beyond. With all of these large active gatherings of young people, even some with the availability of alcohol, it is remarkably difficult to think of any conflicts that attracted law enforcement.

Even last-minute band performances were well attended by a few hundred kids and were held at the teen center, “The Penthouse Sweet”, of which Michael was the proprietor.

Michael enlisted in the United States Air Force in the spring of 1970 and was stationed at the Davis Monthan Air Force Base, in Tucson Arizona, as a Ballistic Missile Analyst Technician.

He fell in love with the Arizona climate during his service years and moved to Mesa, Arizona where he resided for the past 47 years. He married Sandra Denise Force on February 14, 1988. Sandra died of breast cancer in April 1993. Although Michael never re-married, he enjoyed sharing his life with long-time partner, Carol Murphy (Gilbert, AZ) for the past 26 years.

Michael loved making music and camping on “the property” near Pinedale in the Mogollon Rim of Arizona. He also loved his time in the band and talking about “the good old days.” Michael’s knowledge of television and music trivia was legendary.

A great many people will remember Michael as the happy-go-lucky friend, with an infectious laugh, who always enjoyed meeting friends, old and new. He would effortlessly gather everyone near him, make a plan, and have another GOOD time.

Mike, how can we ever say thank you enough? We raise a cold brewski to you, our dearest friend!

Chuckoo, perform your magic up in Heaven and you will make it a happier place.

William “Bill” Russell, 84

The world lost one of its greatest treasures today, the moon and stars will never shine as bright, and the world as a whole feels a bit colder.

HMCS William “Bill” C. Russell (USN, Ret.), 84, a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather passed away Saturday, September 12, 2020, following a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He lived true to the motto of serving God, country, family, and community.

William “Bill” C. Russell was born in the small Hamlet of Tupper Lake to Ralph and Julia Russell- the first son of 11 children. A lifeguard during his youth, his desire to help people drew him to enlist in the US Navy at the age of 17 and started his career at Hospital Corps School in Bainbridge, Maryland. He served on a number of bases and ships with notable accomplishments in the Arctic and Antarctica aboard the USS Glacier, the world’s largest icebreaker at the time, in support of Operation Deep Freeze III-V. During this tour of duty, he wintered over at McMurdo Sound as the senior in charge of medical facilities and even lent a hand in the first appendectomy amid the icebergs of the arctic. In fact, most of his career was spent traveling the 180th meridian. He was deployed to the North Pole during the birth of his daughter, Kathryn, and in the south pole during the birth of his son, William. He was a member of numerous ‘Orders’ including, The Order of the Blue Nose, The Domain of the Golden Dragon, The Order of the Red Nose, and The Order of the Emerald Shellback.

Bill met his soul-mate, Jacqueline "Jackie" (Wygant) Russell, and it wasn't long before they were inseparable-he once even “borrowed” an ambulance to go see her. Bill and Jackie shared a 53-year romance that never faded. He served with distinction and was awarded multiple commendations, including the Navy Unit Commendation, the Good Conduct Award (Fifth Award), and multiple Vietnamese Service Medals including a bronze star. After retiring from the Navy, Bill began to work for the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control as a disease investigation supervisor where he managed four rural counties in the Lowcountry of South Carolina, retiring after 26 years.

Ever the proud parent and grandparent he enjoyed spending most of his time with his family and grandchildren. After retiring from the navy the water still called to him and you could find him poolside enjoying his favorite crab legs.

Bill was a proud parishioner of St. Peter's Catholic Church for over 58 years, and a member of the choir for over 30 years. He joined the Knights of Columbus, Michael O'Connor-Council 5026. He led the council in capturing more state awards than any other Grand Knight and Exemplified into 4th degree becoming the Navigator of the Beaufort Assembly, District Deputy, and State Deputy in South Carolina. Bill led the state to National Honors for two consecutive years by meeting and exceeding every national goal and capturing more awards than any other State Deputy nationwide. He served two terms as District Master of the fourth degree and had the honor of leading the fourth degree into the cathedral & for regalia for the first time in over 25 years. Bill was also one of the originators in South Carolina for the Tootsie Roll Drive (Operation Hope).

Bill was a member of the board of directors of several nonprofit organizations including Thumbs-Up. He served as the chairman of the St. Peter's Family Life Center (school) and church building committees, St. Peter's Parish Council (x2), president of the Holy Name Society, and former Knights of Columbus representative for the Rainbow of Hope Foundation for Clemson University. He was a life member of the Navy League of the United States, a member of the Rotary Club of Beaufort, a two-time recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow award, member of the glacier society, and a longtime member of the Thursday Club- where the jokes ran aplenty.

Bill was incredibly quick-witted and had a fondness for birding, game shows, strawberry milkshakes, Taco Bell, Peanut M&M’s, and Hershey bars with Almonds. Perhaps his greatest regret was not getting a Pepé Le Pew tattoo during his time in the Navy.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Jacqueline M. Russell; his siblings, John Russell, Irene Russell, Grace Grammo, and Ralph Russell and grandson William T. Russell.

He is survived by his children and grandchildren: Kathryn D. Lindemann (Paul), William R. Russell (Angela), Jane E. Greene (Billy), and Theresa M. Raino (Mike). Grandchildren: Billy D. Greene III (Megan), Kristin M. Greene, Jacqueline A. Raino, and Roman W. Russell. To Bill ("Papa"), they were known as "Chum," "My Girl," "The Bug," and "Ro."

He is further survived by siblings, Sally Poirier, Nance Green, Helen “Peg” Cole, Robert “Tom” Russell (Veronica), Michael Russell, Sioux Collier (Bob), and brother-in-law Rey Grammo.

The family will receive friends on Monday, September 21, 2020 from 5-7p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at 12:30 in St. Peter’s Catholic Church with interment at 2 p.m. in Beaufort National Cemetery with military honors.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions prohibiting flowers, in lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made to support Parkinson's Disease research in the Department of Neurology at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in thanks to Dr. Christina L. Vaughan, MD, MHS

Memories compound like interest over time and whose worth is unmeasurable to those that hold them dear. We will always treasure our memories with you – we love you, Papa.

Æron Dæsean Steenberge-McIntyre

OBIT-McIntyre, Aeron.jpg

Our Precious Angel, Æron Dæsean Steenberge-McIntyre came to us on October 8, 2019, with a fighting spirit and a will to live. From the moment he was able to come home to his family, after his early entrance into the world, he was the light of our lives. He brought joy, smiles, laughter and purpose to a family who so desperately needed those blessings.

Æron loved to go for walks every evening with his Papa or his JoJo. He loved swinging in the back yard with his Daddy, and he was his Mommy’s little Pou. His Trishy loved to let him splash in his baby pool, and watch his toes be kissed by the sunshine.

Drummond LaBarge, 97, passed away peacefully at home in the loving care of his children. Born on August 20, 1922, son of Addie and Charlie LaBarge. He was predeceased by his sisters; May, at 2 years old from diphtheria, Veronica Barrett, Beatrice Corneau; brothers, Clarence and Edgar.

After graduating from high school, he worked for a prominent family at Big Wolf for a brief time until he was drafted into the US Army in 1941 and stationed in Papua New Guinea. He moved up very quickly to Staff Sgt, running a Stevedore unit which included several life-long Tupper Lake friends and Aussies. Drummond was one of three sharp shooters, all of them from Tupper Lake and they remained friends for many years. He was in New Guinea until the war ended.

Drummond returned from the war and married Simone LaFrance. Together they had six children, Stephen, Richard, Rhea, Dorie, Ellen and Shaun.

Drummond was a talented athlete. Before the war, he was a side-arm pitcher for the semi-pro Carborundum Factory team in Niagara Falls’ industrial league until he was sidelined by an injury.

Dad held down many jobs including logging camps, Benson mines in Newtown Falls and finally retired as a chef for Sunmount after 30 years. He was a fierce competitor his entire life and took on anybody in horseshoes, shuffle board or darts. Dad was a jack-of-all-trades and could build anything. We often called him an engineer without the degree.

Dad loved being home at the lake which he called his paradise. He loved his outdoor kitchen he built and loved cooking clams, his world-famous chicken, and many fish fries for his family and friends. He also loved going to hunting camp with his son Rick.

Donations in Drummond’s memory can be made out to VFW, 1849 NY-3, Tupper Lake, NY 12986 or Life Flight, PO Box 994 Saranac Lake, NY 12983.

He attended P.S. 152 and W.C. Bryant High School and graduated from L.I. Agricultural and Tech Institute (now SUNY Farmingdale). He also graduated from the New York State Police Academy and the NTC Polygraph School.

Paul served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958, retiring with honorable discharge.

Paul entered the New York State Police on January 2, 1962. He had served in Troops C and B. He retired as a Zone Sergeant on disability as a result of an on-duty shooting incident in Lake Placid on September 30, 1973 during a traffic stop.

Shot three times, once in the neck area, it left him totally paralyzed from the waist down. After many months of combined excellent care at CVPH, Plattsburg, and an intensive rehabilitation program at Sunnyview Hospital, Schenectady, he was discharged able to ambulate with a cane and leg brace.

For seven months Paul was visited everyday by his devoted family, friends and members of the New York State Police…these visits kept his spirits high. Paul remembered that Christmas 1973 at Sunnyview when the staff asked his brother Carl to dress up as Santa Claus. Paul and his children did not recognize Carl as Santa.

Paul and his family lived in Tupper Lake at the time and moved to Albany in 1980 to get away from the severe winters. Paul always loved the Adirondacks and its people.

Paul was a life time member of the New York State Police PBA and the Association of Former NYS Troopers-Adirondack Chapter; a member of the Tupper Lake Mt. Arab Lodge 847, F. & A.M., Tupper Lake Moose Lodge 640, Albany Elks Lodge 49, IPA, American Association of Troopers, Italian-American Heritage Museum, Spinal Cord Society-Capital District Chapter, and the world famous Grump Club.

Paul received the NYSP “Brummer Award”, Troy Police PBA “Gold Shield Award”, Warriors on Wheels Award, Burke Rehabilitation-Research Program Citizen Award, and the Jefferson Award for Public Service.

Paul was a gubernatorial appointee by Gov. George Pataki to serve on the NYS Spinal Cord Injury Research Board, which he proudly served on for 16 years without monetary compensation. Paul always was appreciative of the assistance he received from fellow board member, Dr. Allen Carl, making it possible for him to attend each meeting.

After Pauls' injury, he directed his energy as an active advocate for the funding and research toward finding a cure for spinal cord injury paralysis. He was involved in the Spinal Cord Society Capital District Chapter’s annual research fund benefit for 30 years. He found pleasure when he was a volunteer driver for many years for the St. Peter's Hospital mobile meals with fellow volunteer, Eleanor Finkelstein.

Paul was the driving force and chairman behind the creation of the “Gray Rider Trooper” monument project which is in front of the New York State Police Academy and was dedicated on September 30, 1993, exactly twenty years to the day of his injury. He also initiated a statewide grassroots research board/program which has funded over $90 million to researchers in NYS. Paul gave his time and money to see these projects through to completion.

Paul often said, “whatever accomplishments I may have been fortunate enough to have achieved, it is because of the constant loyal support and help from my family, friends, volunteers, law enforcement community and the Grumps.

Paul enjoyed time with his family, helping others, driving his vintage Chevy Caprice Sedan, the few winters he spent in sunny Florida and lunch with friends at Dee Dee’s Tavern. He appreciated the fine customer service from Lev Shoe Repair, Ragonese Imports and the Lucky Garden Restaurant, Paul’s Garage and always the help he received from Dr. Carl’s assistant, Shanti. Paul missed his pre-injury days in Tupper Lake of hunting, fishing, camping, golfing and skiing.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Claire, six children; Valerie (Michael) Burdo, Christine (Lance) Richardson, Claudine (John) Costello, Lisa (Carl) Albright, James (Kristin) Richter, John Richter and partner Katie O’Keefe; his brother Carl Richter, grandchildren; Olivia Richter, and Maryna and Andrew Richardson and his many friends. Paul was very proud of the accomplishments of his six children which he attributed to their hard work and their mother, Marie, who dedicated her life to her family.

The family would like to thank the nurses at St. Peter’s Hospital Community Hospice Inn for taking such great care of Paul in his last moments.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Paul’s family Friday, August 7, 2020 9a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen Street, Albany, NY 12206 (Please only enter the funeral home from the rear parking lot doorway; Masks and Social Distancing are required; and 40 visitors at a time will be allowed in the funeral home) and then continue on with a New York State Trooper Escort to the Gerald BH Saratoga National Cemetery for a 12:30 pm Service with Military Honors.

To leave a message for the family, please visit www.McveighFuneralHome.com
