Jeanne Theriault Brickey, 85
Jeanne (Theriault) Brickey, 85, passed away peacefully at her home on December 17, 2024. Jeanne was born to Samuel and Loretta Theriault in Tupper Lake, on May 14, 1939.
"Grandma Jeanne" as she was known to many L.P. Quinners throughout the years, will be dearly missed by those she had the pleasure of helping while she was a foster grandparent at the school. Mom was blessed to be a part of Jane Tower’s class. She loved working with Jane and they became close friends over the years.
Family members say: She will be missed so very much, being a vital part of our everyday lives. Her memory will forever be etched within our minds, hearts and spirits. Her quick wit, sense of humor and willingness to help when needed is going to be so hard to replace. Mom was a true blessing sent to us from God above! No one will or could ever take her place on this Earth. God knew just who to give my sister and I to, she was the best mom in the world to us! We were loved and told that we would be loved forever and to never forget that. Mom had a saying that she always shared with us "I'm not Mae West, but I’ll do my best".
Jeanne was predeceased by her mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Theriault of Tupper Lake. She was also predeceased by her older brother John Theriault and his wife Vivian of Vancouver, WA and older sister Joanne Reandeau and her husband Carter of Tupper Lake. Also, a younger sister Linda Lansbury of Beaufort SC, another sister Charlotte Desmarais and her husband Ted of Tupper Lake, preceded Jeanne, along with two of her grandchildren, Samuel LaRochelle, Jr., 17 and his sister Amy Lynn LaRochelle, 34, both from Lakeland. FL.
Jeannie is survived by her loving son Samuel LaRochelle, Sr. of Tupper Lake and her loving daughter Emily Cooper of Winter Haven, FL. She is also survived by her sisters Sally Morin of New Market, AL, Nancy Gale and her late husband Dick of Winter Haven, FL/Tupper Lake (part-time). She is also survived by her brothers, Samuel Theriault and late wife Rita of Tupper Lake, Jimmy Theriault and Tina of Saranac Lake, Glen Theriault of Huntsville, AL and her brother Rocky Theriault and his wife Barbara of Valley, AL. Jeanne is also survived by nieces and nephews, her grandchildren Paul LaRoche of Lakeland FL, Mike Theriault, Christina, Laura and Rocky LaRochelle of Malone, and 16 great-grandchildren.
Jeanne loved visiting with those she held near and dear to her heart. She loved putting puzzles together by herself or with those that she connected with! She was a loving, caring, and sensitive mother, sister, friend and grandparent to us all. We are all better off now than when we would have been, without her loving influence in our lives. We will always love and miss you being here! Until we join again in the heavenly realms with Jesus - Love always, Sam and Em!
Norman V. Garrelts
Norman V. Garrelts, a cherished, devoted, and accomplished individual, passed away on December 9, 2024, at the age of 84. Born on February 19, 1940, in McPherson, Kansas, to Lural and Loretta (Mulshine) Garrelts, Norman spent his formative years in Tupper Lake, where he graduated from Tupper Lake High School.
He furthered his education at Villanova University, earning a bachelor's degree in economics. On February 23, 1963, he was united in marriage to Shirley Woods.
Norm's professional journey began with Sears in 1963 where he helped manage a small catalogue store in Tupper Lake. He continued his journey with Sears where he held positions of increasing responsibility and moved frequently throughout the Northeast during his time with the company.
He ultimately retired from the company after 30 successful years, in 1993, as a regional manager of stores in the New England states. After a brief retirement, he joined the Hackett Hardware family as their Chief Executive Officer, a role he held from 1995 until his retirement in 2009.
Norm is survived by his beloved wife Shirley; his two sons, Tim (Mary) Garrelts of North Hampton, NH, and Todd (Lynn) Garrelts of Queensbury; six grandchildren, Cameron, Cassandra, Christopher, Caten, Caroline, and Christian. He is also survived by his brother Denis (Mickey) Garrelts of Burke, VA, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents, Lural and Lauretta Garrelts, and two brothers, Richard (Dolly) and Gerry (Rita) Garrelts.
In his leisure time, Norm enjoyed golfing, boating, hunting, gardening, fishing, and watching college basketball, especially Villanova games. He also had a passion for working around the house and loved outdoor projects. His greatest joy, however, was spending time with his family. His holidays, travel, and summers were centered around family, and one of his most treasured pastimes was spending time around the St. Lawrence River with his grandchildren during the summers in Ogdensburg.
Norman was an active member of the Rotary and Lions Club in Glens Falls and served as a board member for several organizations, including the Claxton Hepburn Hospital, United Helpers, and the Remington Art Museum in Ogdensburg.
The family has requested that memorial donations be made to the Ogdensburg Boys & Girls Club, SPCA, Claxton Hepburn Hospital, or the Remington Art Museum.
A celebration of his life will be held in the future at a time to be announced.
Richard “Dick” Staves
Dick entered his final resting place on December 24th at the Adirondack Medical Center with his wife by his side. He had fought a long and hard battle with COPD and Parkinson's Disease.
Born in Tupper Lake on January 27, 1940 he was the son of Edward and Yvette (Delair) Staves. He attended Holy Ghost Academy until the age of 17 when he joined the United States Air Force.
He was married to his first wife while he was in Victorville, Ca. After moving to Tupper Lake they became the parents of two children. The marriage ended in divorce in the late 60's.
Dick moved to Mystic, Ct. in 1967 and was employed at the New London Shipyard for several years. He returned to Tupper Lake with his children in late 1972.
He later met and married the love of his life, Gwen Thornton on April 5. 1975 and together they have one son.
While in Tupper, Dick worked for Tupper Lake Veneer, but also was a boy scout leader along with his brother George. They took on many projects together including rebuilding their old jeeps. We had dubbed them the brothers, Nit and Wit, and never which one was what.
After a couple of years working in Tupper Lake, Dick decided to attend the School of Modern Welding in Schenectady which in turn helped him get into the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 105 of Schenectady. This led to his working away from home most of the time. Later Local 105 was merged with Local 7 of Albany, N.Y. and when the work became scarce Dick decided to retire in 1999 enjoying being able to stay at home.
Dick is survived by his wife, Gwen, of 49 years, two sons, Michael (Sheila) Staves of Galway, N.Y., James of Tupper Lake, and four grandchildren, Danielle (wife Robyn Glasscock) Riley of San Antonio, TX, Brian (Sonya) Staves of Tucson, AR, Stephen (Dianna) Staves of Ellicott City, MD and Josh (Breanna) of Scotia, N.Y. He also has four great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson along with nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents Edward and Yvette Staves, his daughter Sheila Chase, in-laws Robert and Loyola Thornton and sisters-in-law Patricia Hassler and Colleen Larabie.
Arrangements are with the Frary Funeral Home. There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will take place in the spring

Diane Lee Trombley, 72
Diane Lee Trombley, 72, of Tupper Lake, passed into the loving arms of her Savior at 11:45 p.m. on November 10, 2024 at the Adirondack Medical Center, just hours after arriving at the emergency center.
Diane's final wishes were there be no service. This will be honored by her family. She will undergo cremation and her earthly remains will be interred in May 2025 - when nature awakens, her favorite time of year. A notice will be posted in the Tupper Lake Free Press as to the date and time. Her stepsister Patricia Reandeau has been requested to officiate the ceremony.
Diane was born on October 28, 1952 at Mercy Hospital in Tupper Lake although she was raised in Piercefield.
Her parents, who preceded her, were Harland “Peanut " Drew and Arlene Drew Nee Grammo.
As a child Diane went to school in Piercefield, the school was at the site of the present town hall and garage. She then went to Tupper Lake Central High School until her mother became seriously ill, forcing Diane to leave school to tend to her mother.
That was typical of Diane's whole life, often denying herself to give aid to others. She loved children, cats, hummingbirds, and especially her 10 year old long-haired Chihuahua, "Gizmo."
As a teen, Diane worked at Larry Wood’s Laundry with her "partner in crime” Cindy Socia, who later became the wife of local woodsman Jeannel Lizotte. Many times, Larry, the owner of the laundry, had to go get these two errant employees from a long lunch at the Hi-Hat Lounge.
Diane also worked at Mercy Healthcare Center for 14 years, where her kindness and love of the residents was well known. Diane also worked for 20 years at Sunmount, always giving 110 percent.
Diana is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Bernard, her two sons, Bernard Jr. and his companion Penny Depo who lived in Lincoln Maine; Nathan and his companion Sabrina Pickering, two granddaughters, Amber Trombley and Brittany Estep, a grandson Branden Clement, two great-grandsons and a new great-granddaughter, along with several nieces and nephews.
Diane was preceded in death by her parents, Harland “Peanut” Drew and Arlene Drew, also an older sister Donna Webber and the younger brother Franklin (“Frankie, the Woodsman”) Drew.
She was also predeceased by her parent’s grandmother, sister, brother and niece, all interred in Gale Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the National kidney foundation or to the Tupper Lake volunteer rescue squad.

Roberta “Carol” Martell, 90
Roberta Carol Martell passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Wednesday, December 18th, 2024.
She was 90 years old. A celebration of her life will be held at noon on January 4, 2025 at the Episcopal Church on Brentwood Street in Tupper Lake. The Rev. Patty Beauharnois will officiate the funeral Mass.
Carol was born in Syracuse, N.Y. on December 23, 1933 to parents Ben and Evelene (Peo) Schryver. She attended Tupper Lake schools and graduated from High School in 1951. She would go on to receive her nursing degree from St. Luke’s Hospital in New York City, now known as Mount Sinai Morningside.
As a registered nurse, Carol worked for 25 years at Sunmount DDSO in Tupper Lake and was an avid snowmobiler, gardener, bowler and even played softball as the “Short Fielder.
As a child, Carol always wanted to be a vet and raise horses, however, her mother said “no” to the idea of becoming a veterinarian – so she became a nurse instead and eventually fulfilled her childhood dream of owning horses.
Carol was also a pro at knitting, aside from creating hats and mittens out of yarn, she was most famous for her hand-crafted Christmas stockings! She was also a supporter of the Wounded Warrior Project, animal shelters and the Saranac Lake area’s Life Flight.
Carol is survived by her children Kathy Bly, Debbie (Richard) Schmidt and brother, John (Carrie) Schryver; her grandchildren Cory (Breanna) LaQuay, Jeffrey (Mckenzie) LaQuay, Brittany Ryan, Carol (Michael) Lettero, Richard (Mariana) Schmidt, Tiffany (Nicholas) Burckhardt, along with several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by both of her parents, Ben and Evelene, her husband Richard, son James Rowan and son-in-law Jeffrey Bly.
After the funeral Mass on January 4, 2025 there will be a luncheon reception celebrating Carol’s life directly following the mass at the St. Thomas Parish Hall. If you would like to donate in Carol’s memory, the family has asked that you send your support to the Tri-Lakes Humane Society and the North Country Life Flight, Inc – both in Saranac Lake.

Hugo Freer Clearwater, 93
Hugo "Hugh" Freer Clearwater died December 20, 2024, in Saranac Lake. He was 93 years old.
He was born June 17, 1931, in Schenectady, New York, the son of Ralph Leroy Clearwater and Bertha Mary Louise Walker.
He attended schools in the Glens Falls area and the Mid-Hudson Valley. He graduated from the Arlington High School, Poughkeepsie, valedictorian of the Class of 1949. He majored in mathematics and physics at Union College, Schenectady and graduated in the Class of 1953.
While at Union he also served in the Air Force ROTC and was commissioned as a second lieutenant upon graduating. He was called to active duty and entered the navigator-observer school at Ellington AFB, Houston, Texas. After receiving his wings, he was assigned to a MATS squadron at Dover AFB, Delaware. He logged 2000 hours while flying in the North Atlantic, European and North African areas.
After being released from active duty, he completed a master's degree program in physics and-in science education-at-SUNY Albany.
In the fall of 1960-he began a teaching career at Arlington High School in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. He was named science department coordinator in 1963 and continued in that position, in addition to teaching, until he retired in 1992.
Mr. Clearwater travelled widely both before and after he retired. He hiked and backpacked in all fifty states and most of the Canadian provinces. He especially enjoyed canoeing and took numerous wilderness trips in the Northeast and in Ontario.
In the summer of 1989, he travelled to the USSR as a participant in a program to improve relations between our two countries on a people-to-people basis. Contacts made during this program resulted in invitations to visit Russian families. Over the next twelve years he travelled to Russia nine times and spent a total of eight months there.
Hugo was married to Dianne Ada Armstrong in Altamont, New York, on June 26, 1976. His wife pre-deceased him on September 18, 2001.
He is survived by his brother, John Livingston Clearwater, Sr., a nephew, John, Jr., niece Kimberly, a grandnephew and niece, numerous cousins and his good friend, Adam Baldwin. He is a direct descendent of three of the New Paltz Patentees; of Samuel Fuller, a passenger on the Mayflower; and of the Rev. John Henry Livingston, ancestor of the Livingston family in the United States.
Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. The interment will be in the New Paltz Rural Cemetery, New Paltz, NY at the convenience of the family. There will be no memorial service.
Patricia (Connor) Pierson, 73
Patricia Pierson, 73, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2024.
Patty was born to Maurice and Delia (Madore) Connor in Tupper Lake.
She attended Tupper Lake Central School, graduating with the class of 1969. She went on to study at SUNY Alfred, where a Tupper Lake neighbor, Joe Gagnier, introduced Patty to his roommate Herbie Pierson.
Herb (Bud) and Patty married at St. Alphonsus Church in 1971 and shortly after, they moved to Homestead, FL. That is where they raised their three daughters and ran their tropical foliage nursery for 48 years. Although they had a good life in Florida, Patty always wanted to be back in the Adirondacks where they came to retire.
Patty is survived by her husband of 53 years; Herb (Bud), daughters; Gretchen (Rob), Nikki (Jeremy) and Dee Dee; Grandchildren; Austin (Adrianna), Cody, Bella, Delia, Kamryn, Kolton, Eastin and Brody; great granddaughter; Scarlett Mae.
She is also survived by brothers; Cal (Dian) Connor, Jim (Shirley) Connor, brothers in law Keith (Claudy) Pierson and Doug Barbeau and sisters in law Mary Connor and Nancy Dolan as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Patty was predeceased by her parents, brothers Marvin and Alvin Connor and sister in law Cindy Barbeau.
There will be a visitation at Frary Funeral Home, Tupper Lake on Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at 11a.m. with a Prayer at 1p.m.
Interment will be in Hasleton Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation or to The Tri Lakes Hospice would be greatly appreciated.
Karen L. Demers
Karen L. Demers, affectionately known as Louise or Louie by friends, was born on September 30, 1974, in Saranac Lake, NY. She passed away peacefully on December 13, 2024, at The University of Vermont Medical Center, in Burlington, VT, surrounded by family.
Karen was a devoted mother and grandmother, cherished by her two daughters, Chelsea Gilson and Kendra Rolley, both of Tupper Lake, and adored by her seven grandchildren: Jakob Rossing, Serenity Hare, Sophiya Gilson, Hunter Gilson, Bryce Rolley, Elsa-Mae Hadlock and Madelyn Fleury. She found immense joy in spending time with her family, and nothing made her happier than seeing her grandchildren smile.
A lover of the outdoors, Karen enjoyed crocheting, watching NASCAR, and indulging in her favorite TV shows, including Law and Order SVU and the Cooking Network. She had a deep appreciation for country music, which often accompanied her moments of creativity and family gatherings.
Karen was known for her warm heart and generosity, always willing to lend a helping hand. She lived by the motto "live life to the fullest," and her infectious spirit positively impacted everyone around her. Karen was predeceased by her mother Juliette Rossing. Her father, Kenneth Rossing, survives her, along with countless friends and family members who were touched by her love and kindness.
Karen will be remembered not only for her love of family and nature but also for her unwavering support and compassion for others. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Mary Jane (Robillard) Kennedy, 82
Mary Jane (Robillard) Kennedy, 82, of Tupper Lake, passed away peacefully Monday, December 2, 2024 at the Tupper Lake Center.
She was born in Potsdam, N.Y. on September 27, 1942.
Mary Jane graduated from Tupper Lake High School and could usually be found most of her childhood and teen years at Miss Tupper Diner which was owned and operated by her parents Amos and Mary Robillard.
In her later years you could see her working at the Village of Tupper Lake until her retirement.
Mary Jane enjoyed visiting with her good friends at Woodlands Apartments where she lived for the past 11 years.
She also enjoyed soaking up the sun while camping at the beach every summer and spending as much time as she could with her grandchildren.
Mary Jane was married to Manuel Kennedy on July 22, 1989 who predeceased her on July 5, 2011.
Mary Jane is survived by her children Tina Burnett and husband Jerry; Debbie DeGrace and her significant other Douglas Wood; Robert DeGrace and his wife Stacey. She also had three step-daughters, Debra Miller and husband John; Polly Garvey and her significant other Randy McIntyre and Merrilee Hubbard and her husband Kenneth.
She was also blessed to have nine grandchildren: Paul Brown, Taylor Proulx, Maddison Proulx, Alexis DeGrace, Avri DeGrace, Sayla Harris, Kayla Harris, Paige Garvey, Hailee Garvey, six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mary Jane was predeceased by her parents, one daughter, Andrea Martell, a sister Heide Green and a brother John “Jack” Riley.
Calling hours were from 4p.m. to 6p.m. on Monday, December 9, 2024 at the Frary Funeral Home in Tupper Lake. A service followed at the Funeral Home. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, that donation be made to the Tupper Lake Rescue or the Tupper Lake Food Pantry.
John Fish, 74
John M. Fish, 74, passed away peacefully at Saratoga Hospital on Friday, December 6, 2024 from complications related to Parkinson’s Disease.
Born on January 12, 1950, in Fort Collins, CO, John was the son of the late Bernard Fish and Elvera (Abby) Nagy Fish.
Husband, Dad, PopPop, teacher, coach, teammate and friend were many of the names that John was known by throughout his life.
He was a retired social studies teacher from Tupper Lake High School where he worked for 32 years. He coached many teams at the high school and community college level, ranging from basketball to soccer to ice hockey. He continued his love of sports by playing over-50 men’s basketball at the Saratoga YMCA and by encouraging his four grandchildren on the sidelines at their many athletic events.
After teaching, John was able to explore his love of music while working for 15 years at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center. As the backstage security manager at SPAC, he enjoyed concerts from all music genres and earned the respect and friendship of performing artists big and small.
He was an avid golfer, talented woodworker, and go-to handyman for his family and friends. He put his knowledge of world history to good use on trips to Asia, Australia, Europe and South America – never forgetting to bring back a souvenir baseball hat to commemorate his travels. Always ready with a smile or helping hand, John was much loved by his family, friends, and neighbors.
John is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Linda T. Fish, and their two children: Matthew B. Fish (Colleen Cook Fish) and Rebecca L. Fish Boucher (Matthew Boucher). He also leaves behind cherished grandchildren: Simone Boucher, Adam Boucher, Merin Boucher and Troy Boucher; his sister Ruth Fish Mason and brother E. Roy Fish.
At the family’s request, there will be no formal services.

Joan Barton
“Thy modesty’s a candle to thy merit.”
It comes with heavy hearts to announce the passing of Joan Marylouise Oshier Barton, born February 4, 1938.
She peacefully passed away December 1, 2024, at the age of 86.
Joan was a beloved mother to eight children: Michael (Becky) Barton, Steven Barton, Laurie (Dan) Plowe, Deanna (Richard) LaMoy, Janice Heelien, William Barton, Daniel (Amy) Barton, and Jason Leboeuf. She was predeceased by her two sons, Micheal and Daniel, her mother Rose Oshier, four grandchildren, and her cherished furbabies she obtained throughout her life. Joan's legacy continues on through her many grand and great-grandchildren, whom she loved dearly.
Joan's life was marked by dedication and service. Graduating in 1957 from Tupper Lake High School, she worked various jobs throughout her life. Her most prized and cherished job was being a mother to her children.
While working at Leboeuf’s market she also worked for North Country Home Services as a home health aid and at The ARC as a DSP. She concluded her professional journey at The ARC, where she retired.
She embraced life with a spirit of adventure, famously getting lost and visiting a variety of locations; including but not limited to Indiana, California, North Carolina, and Niagara Falls after retirement.
Her life was filled with simple joys and passions. Which included her love of music that she demonstrated through singing and dancing. Among country artists she loved, Charlie Pride was notably her favorite.
Family members say she enjoyed long walks around town, but enjoyed the foot rubs (she forced upon us) afterward more. Her love for the outdoors was evident by numerous camping trips she enjoyed with family. Her love for nature was also displayed when she would stop and enjoy watching wildlife whenever she could.
Joan tended to numerous plants throughout the years, utilizing her rhubarb to bake her famous pies that many loved.
Joan enjoyed watching many movies and game shows. Her favorite movies were westerns and action movies with Steven Seagal.
She loved to keep her family on their toes by frequently rearranging furniture and changing her curtains. During her downtime, Joan enjoyed employing her tablet, looking up her loved ones and completing artwork. Joan cherished time spent with her family, especially shopping with her grandchildren, and was known for her playful attempts to "run them over" with a shopping cart. She formed meaningful connections with the nurses and other people at dialysis, where her watchful and caring nature shone through.
Joan’s mischievous smile, her warmth, humor, and unwavering love for her family and friends will be missed dearly. Her vibrant spirit has left an unforgettable impression on all who knew her, and her legacy of strength, resilience, and faith will remain deeply treasured in the hearts of her loved ones.
Services will be held at St. Alphonsus Church today- Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at 11a.m.. Burial services will be held at a later time, in the summer of 2025.
Eileen Stott Parker
Eileen Stott (Parker) passed away on December 4, 2024 at Elizabethtown hospital, with her loving husband by her side.
Eileen was born on October 24, 1923 in Sprout Brook, N.Y. to parents James Maddison and Annie (Skellett) Maddison. She attended various schools as her father was a minister during the Depression Era years and they moved often.
In 1941, Eileen graduated from Hudson High School and then graduated from Columbia Memorial Nursing School in 1944.
She was a proud Veteran of WWII, serving as an Ensign in the U. S. Navy from 1944 to 1945. During that time she was stationed in Fort Eustis, VA and after the war, she continued her service in the U.S. Navy Reserves until the 1950s. After the Navy Reserves, she began her civilian nursing career at Mercy General Hospital in Tupper Lake, where she later became Director of Nursing.
Eileen also was a nurse at the New York State at Sunmount Developmental Center .
Eileen is survived by her husband, Bradford Parker; her four children, Bruce Brown (Judy) of Gansevoort, NY, Pamela Stott of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., Barbara Lovelace (Keith) of Sunbury, N.C. and Mary Jane Schaffer (Angie) of Tupper Lake.
She was blessed with eight grandchildren: Bruce Brown (Suki), Joel Brown (Monica), Marc Brown, Ellie Brown, Timothy Bishop, Jerod, John (Chelsea) and Sarajane Schaffer. She is also survived through eleven great-grandchildren.
Eileen had many nieces, nephews and in-laws and their families that were very important to her and shared many stories of her life and wonderful sense of humor and quick wit. The family cannot go without mentioning all the special friends she made throughout her life and the happiness and memories they brought to her each day.
She was predeceased by her sister, Mary Armstrong and her brothers, James and Charles.

Roy E. Brown, 78
Roy E. Brown, 78, of East Haddam, beloved husband of Priscilla (DeGrace) Brown, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2024, at Middlesex Hospital.
He was born in Tupper Lake, the son of the late Roy J. Brown and Esther (LaFave) Brown.
Roy was a graduate of SUNY Maritime College in New York and began his career with distinguished service in the Army Corps of Engineers. He went on to work as a nuclear engineer, contributing to Connecticut Yankee and the University of Connecticut's Department of Nuclear Physics before retiring.
Throughout his life, Roy was known for his intellect, dedication, and love for his family and community.
Besides his wife he is survived by a son, Derrick, and his wife Laura of Cromwell, a sister Nancy of Rochester, N.Y. and a brother, Tim Brown of NY. He was predeceased by a son, Todd R. Brown.
Funeral services are today, Wednesday, Dec 11, 2024, at 11.a.m. at Biega funeral Home 3 Silver Street Middletown. Jeremy John Boushie, 39
Jeremy John Boushie, 39, Loveland, Ohio, passed away on Monday, November 25, 2024.
Jeremy was born February 12, 1985, in Saranac Lake, and lived in Tupper Lake until moving to Ohio where he started his family.
Jeremy was a hardworking man who loved his family, nieces and nephews, and especially his four children that brought such pride and happiness to his life. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and all the time spent with his children. Jeremy was the life of every party and would talk to absolutely anyone. He made it impossible to not smile and laugh when in his presence. Jer enjoyed being around people, family reunions, parties, weddings, and tearing up a dance floor.
Jeremy is survived by his wife of thirteen years, Crystal (Boudreau) and four children, Jayden, Chloe, Cameron, and Jase, Loveland, OH; mother and father, Jacqueline (Keniston) and Steven Boushie, Tupper Lake; four brothers, Justin Boushie and wife, Rebecca, Hudson, NY, Steven Boushie and wife, Mackenzie, Tupper Lake, Nicholas Boushie and wife, Ashley, Dannemora, N.Y., and Zachary Boushie, Rochester, N.Y.; grandmother, Jeannette Keniston (Memere); nephew, Gavin; four nieces, McKenna, Madelyn, Abigail, and Macie along with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Jeremy is preceded in death by his beloved sister who he loved and missed deeply, Jessica Boushie, grandparents, Phyllis and Richard Boushie, Larry Keniston, Sr., uncles Brian Dukett, Paul Boushie, Rod Nadeau, and Larry Keniston Jr.

Judy Stern Miller, 86
Judy Stern Miller, peacefully passed away on Nov. 30th, 2024, at age 86, she is the daughter of Hank and Cecelia Stern (Robitaille) and was born in Saranac Lake, on Sept. 24, 1938.
She graduated from Saranac Lake HS. During this time she met Alfred “Fred” Miller. They married in July, 1957 and settled in Tupper Lake. Judy was a full-time mom to their three children.
She is predeceased by both her parents and Fred. She is survived by her three children, David Miller of Tupper Lake, Lynda Miller Cihanowic (Chip) of Crestview, Florida and Alan Miller of Tupper Lake. She is also survived by her two grandchildren, Danielle Landrum of Pace, Fl. And Alex Cihanowic of Staten Island, N.Y. and two great grandchildren, Natalie and Zachary Landrum of Pace, Florida.
Judy frequently volunteered her time to the Holy Name School PTO and with the Girls Scouts. She and her son Alab would also spend many days at the Mercy Living Center helping the residents, visiting with them and lifting their spirits with games of Bingo. She enjoyed going to concerts with her children all across northern New York and Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Her family was her pride and joy.
Jeannel Lizotte, 79
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jeannel Lizotte of Tupper Lake, on November 18, 2024 at the age of 79.
Jeannel was a man of endless laughter, warmth, and generosity. With his sharp wit, infectious humor, and radiant smile, he had a unique gift for lighting up any room. His presence brought joy to everyone fortunate enough to know him. He was born in St. Francis, New Brunswick, Canada and came to the United States in 1965, then eventually settling in Tupper Lake. He established Lizotte Logging Inc. in 1973.
As a husband, Jeannel was unwavering in his love and devotion. His relationship with Cindy was one of true partnership, built on shared dreams. Together, they created a life full of love, laughter, and cherished memories that will be carried on forever. As a father, his love was unconditional. Amy and Scott will forever remember the lessons he taught them, from the importance of family, hard work and the value of a good joke.
He was a proud grandfather, whose love for his grandchildren knew no bounds. Whether he was telling stories, or just spending time with them, he created a legacy of warmth and affection that will never be forgotten.
Jeannel is survived by his beloved wife, Cindy; his children, Amy and Seth Berger of Charlotte, N.C., and Scott and Amanda Lizotte of Tupper Lake, N.Y.; his grandchildren, Logan and Colin Berger, and Jeannelle, Maddox and Everett Lizotte; three sisters, Gisele Sirois of Melbourne, FL., Anne Perreault of Bristol, CT., Rina and Phil Thibeault of Madawaska, ME; as well as many other cherished family members who will continue to honor his memory.
Arrangements for Jeannel were handled by the Frary Funeral Home of Tupper Lake, which included calling hours Sunday afternoon, from 2p.m. to 4p.m..
Cynthia Dukett
After a courageous, years-long battle with metastatic breast cancer, Cynthia (Cindy) Dukett, passed away on November 23rd surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 31, 1961 to Theresa and Jack Riley. Cindy graduated in 1979 from Tupper Lake High School. She then attended the Albany Medical Center School of Nursing and graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1982. Cindy worked as an RN at the Albany Medical Center in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit, Saranac Lake General Hospital, and finally at Sunmount DDSO.
Cindy is survived by her husband of 42 years, Scot Dukett, who she married on October 9, 1982 at St. Alphonsus with Msgr. Dumas officiating. Scot and Cindy were not only husband and wife, but lifelong best friends. She is also survived by her three children, Eric (Jennifer) Dukett of Broad Brook, CT, Matthew (Amanda) Dukett of Tupper Lake and Rebecca (Jonathan) Doane of Tupper Lake; 7 grandchildren, Alexis, Elowen, Connor, Jonathan (Jack), Riley, Silas, and Colden. She is also survived by her siblings Michael, Lynn, Mary T, and Debbie.
There was nothing Cindy wouldn’t do for her children or grandchildren. She was the Grammy or GiGi or Grandma that everyone wanted to bake or craft with. Cindy truly loved her children and grandchildren unconditionally. Cindy loved anything to do with crafting, whether it was crotchet, knitting, or making ornaments with her grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents and granddaughter Eden Rosemarie Doane.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, November 27, 2024 at 11a.m. with Rev. Clement Rimonds officiating. Calling hours were held on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 from 4p.m. to 6p.m. at Frary Funeral Home. Burial will follow the Mass at St. Alphonsus Cemetery.

Steven J. Farnsworth, 53
It is with a heavy heart the family of Steven J. Farnsworth, age 53, announce his passing on November 19th, 2024. He died at home, surrounded by his loved ones.
A funeral service was held on Monday, November 25th, 2024 from 3p.m. to 7p.m. at the Frary Funeral Home in Tupper Lake, with a gathering at the Trail's End immediately afterward, with food and drinks for family and friends.
Steven was born on April 11, 1971 in Watertown, N.Y. and attended local schools in Tupper Lake. His mother Irene Schaniel and father Carl Farnsworth raised a very quiet and private son. Steven was known for being a skilled craftsman and finishing carpenter.
Anyone who knew Steven knew he loved the outdoors and driving fast! One of Steven's greatest passions was riding his motorcycles with his brothers from Raquette River Riders and other motorcycle clubs from the surrounding area. Steven especially liked taking part in benefit rides supporting other clubs and local people with needs.
Steven was always willing to help others. Steven also loved spending time on his boat fishing, camping and spending time with family and friends, including his beloved dog and cat Quincey Marie and Precious.
Steven enjoyed getting out with his wife to go camping and always making a pit stop to go to the casino and play the slots.
Steven is survived by his beloved wife Linda and his step-children, Gwen Mayotte and Matthew Cote, both of Tupper Lake, his parents, Irene Schaniel and Carl Farnsworth both of Tupper Lake, his only sister Armanda (Farnsworth) Locke and her significant other Chris Gagnon.
Steven is also survived by his children- a son, Reese Bradley of Tupper Lake and a daughter, Brooke Miller of Oregon. He also leaves behind a special niece, Kailyn Exware a.k.a. "Sweet-Pea" and her significant other Ryeleigh Shore and a special nephew, Caleb Exware a.k.a. "Monster" and his significant other Sierra Moody. Steven also had five step-grandchildren, one step-great grand-daughter, whom he loved with all his heart, along with several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was predeceased by Steven Akey, grandparents Armand and Patricia Mitchell, Earl and Edith Farnsworth, his daughter Rouchelle Farnsworth and his beloved pet dog, Quincey Marie.

Michael Barten
Michael Barten, born December 17, 1954, to Fletcher and Joyce (Johnston) Barten of Dayton, New York, passed away Saturday November 16, 2024.
Michael was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose heart of gold, witty sense of humor, and deep compassion left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
He is predeceased by his mother, Joyce (Johnston) Barten (June 1985), and his father, Fletcher Barten (February 1987). Michael is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Patricia (Sommer) Barten; his sons and their families: Andrew and Raven of Point Pleasant, N.J., Paul and Tiana of Plattsburgh, Thomas and Catherine of Point Pleasant, N.J., and Daniel and Renee of State College, PA.
He was the proud grandfather of seven granddaughters and three grandsons, who brought everlasting joy to his life. Michael is also survived by his brother, Bruce Barten, of Hamburg, N.Y.
Michael dedicated his career to serving others, working as a registered nurse for the state of New York and later at the Rochester Psychiatric Center. Before his time in Rochester, he worked at Sunmount DDSO and served the Tupper Lake community as a firefighter, dispatcher, and driver.
Tupper Lake always held a special place in his heart, and he cherished the friendships he made there.
Known for his compassion and unwavering dedication to the people he loved, Michael strove to make life better for those around him. His quick wit and warm smile could brighten any room, and his kindness touched countless lives. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Caroline Weiss Dawson
Caroline Weiss Dawson died on November 5, 2024 at the Champlain Physicians Hospital, Plattsburgh, N.Y., after suffering a major stroke at home on October 1, 2024.
Caroline was born in Watertown, WI on November 18, 1940. Caroline was predeceased by her parents Richard Glenn Weiss, a pharmacist in Watertown and Madison, WI and Kathryn Franey Weiss, a music teacher and homemaker.
She is also predeceased by her older brothers, Peter Weiss of Minneapolis, MN and Stephen Weiss of Portland OR, and one younger sister Christine Weiss Roberts of Ithaca, NY.
She is survived by her husband James C. Dawson of Plattsburgh and one younger sister, Martha Weiss Kneuer of Bend, OR and seven nieces and nephews. She is also survived by five of her six high school sorority ‘ya ya’ sisters.
Caroline graduated from West High School in Madison, WI and earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. At the university she was a member of the Alpha Phi sorority. She later went on to earn a Master of Science in Nursing degree from Boston University.
At BU she did her summer field experience in pediatric nursing in the Roxbury area of South Boston. Caroline worked as a Supervisor and Director of Patient Services (public heath nursing) at the Clinton County Health Department, Plattsburgh, before retiring after twenty years of service.
In retirement she went on to earn a Masters of Public Administration degree and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Social Work, both at The University at Albany, SUNY. She did her PhD dissertation study on the impact of severe childhood asthma on caregivers in rural northeastern Vermont.
She started this study during the early part of her fifteen year career at the Vermont Department of Health in Burlington, VT where she wrote the first drafts of several State of Vermont, Center for Disease Control and Prevention reports. She loved her trips to Atlanta, GA where she presented the final drafts of these reports to the CDC&P.
Caroline met her husband at “The Office,” a bar on Park Street in Madison, WI, in November, 1967. They dated while Jim completed his PhD work in geology and geophysics at the UW-Madison and were married on June 12, 1971 in Plattsburgh, NY.
Caroline will be remembered for her infectious giggle, her sparkle and her sweet smile. She loved and cared about people and she loved life. Caroline liked to be outside and enjoyed sailing on Lake Champlain for many years with her husband, Jim, on their Tanzer 26, the ‘Kant Agre’. She especially enjoyed their week long adventures exploring all the nooks, crannies, islands and gunk holes of the lake. She enjoyed camping in the woods and supported Jim as they camped in all the wilderness areas of the Adirondacks. She called herself ‘the reluctant 46er’ as she followed Jim around to become #889. In the winter, she enjoyed cross country skiing until she broke her left leg in 1980 skiing on the new Olympic trails In Lake Placid.
The lameness associated with this break, and the arthritis that followed, were a great frustration for Caroline as it largely ended her outdoor activity. Fortunately, Caroline always loved classical music and opera, and with Jim, she enjoyed many years of performances of the Lake Placid Symphonia, the Montreal Symphony, the Montreal Opera, the Glimmerglass Festival in Cooperstown, NY and when possible The Met in New York. She was always determined to support and attend local classical, and near classical, music groups and concerts.
She loved her apartment piano; but, did not practice enough to become truly accomplished. Caroline also loved plays and the theatre, and for decades joined Jim for dinner and plays at the The Centaur in Montreal as well as several local theatre groups.
Caroline had a strong appreciation for the fine arts, and no trip to Boston, Montreal or New York or any major city was complete if she did not get to visit some of their major art museums. Caroline enjoyed her trips with Jim to the National Parks and other localities in the western United States and was very patient and supportive when Jim detoured to attend meetings or to look at rock outcrops.
Caroline also enjoyed and supported Jim on their, mostly annual, Christmas trips to the Toronto, ON area, to visit Jim’s family. Caroline also loved her ya ya sisters and the several annual trips they took together, as well as the birthday telephone, and later, zoom calls they shared.
Caroline was a great reader, and after their wedding, she firmly insisted on having her own subscription to The Atlantic and a seven-day subscription to The New York Times. Having grown up with two older brothers, she could be feisty and insistent about getting her share. She regularly had Jim order books and she seemed to read a book a week including a range of contemporary fiction and to a lesser degree non-fiction.
Caroline loved her husband, Jim, very much and frequently told him this. Caroline and Jim were a little older, at age thirty, when they married, and both were ready for their long term commitment. As a result, they were each other’s best friends, lovers and companions throughout their lives together. So, Caroline was an extremely supportive friend and companion to Jim throughout his travels overseas and his many stateside activities.
Calling hours for Caroline will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2024 from 11a.m. to 1p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad Street, Plattsburgh, NY followed by interment at the historic Riverside Cemetery, Plattsburgh.
