Isabel Grace Cassell, 89
Isabel Grace Cassell, 89, of 30 Park St. died on Tuesday June 2nd at Tupper Lake Nursing Center following a long illness.
She was born January 4, 1937 in Tupper Lake daughter of Patrick Arsenault and Grace (Clement) Arsenault.
She attended Tupper Lake High School and excelled as a baton majorette.
She went on to marry the love of her life, Dan Cassell ,on July 3r 1955. She worked at Mercy Healthcare for two years until she retired to take care of her husband Danny.
Together they embarked on an adventure and founded The Cassell’s Toy Factory making sure the Tupper Lake children always had toys under the Christmas tree and warm winter clothes to wear.
Dan and Issy were co-awarded the Dewitt-Clinton Masonic Award for community service in 1991. The couple also received the Tri-Lakes Community Volunteers of The Year in 1993. She went on after Dan died in December of 1993 and ran a pet shop with her daughter Tammy for the next five years.
When the Mattoon’s Sunflower Bakery opened, she was right there greeting all the customers with her sweet and heartwarming smile and a big “how can I help you?”.
She sold her home and moved into Don Smith’s where she was crowned the “mayor” of Don Smith’s. She hosted coffee hour, helped with meals on wheels, and loved serving dinners to her many friends. She also loved making puzzles and being a social butterfly until she moved into her new apartment with her eldest daughter and sons-in-law. S
She lived a full and beautiful life until Dan and Jesus called her home.
She is survived by her daughter Tammy (Cassell) Mattoon and son in law Barry Mattoon, Granddaughter Blair (Mattoon) Hutt and husband Daniel Hutt, great-grandchildren Bryce, Vivian, Evangeline and Emerson. Grandsons Nathan and Jeremy and granddaughter Kelsey Mattoon. Her son William (Bill) Cassell, wife Stephanie (Varden) Cassell, granddaughter Alicia (Cassell) Lanthier, and husband Corey Lanthier, great-grandchildren Carter and Aria Lanthier, grandson Josh Cassell and great grandson Wyatt Cassell, grandchildren Austin and wife Samantha Cassell and Alexis Cassell. Daughter Tina (Cassell) LaCombe and her husband Justin LaCombe, grandsons Logan Martin, Caleb, Gabriel, Noah and Sam LaCombe. Son Michael and wife Bethany (Reandeau) Cassell, grandchildren Daniel, Kimberly, Evan, Aspen, Sawyer, Noah, Sarah and Owen Cassell and great-grandson Dean.
She is predeceased by her parents Patrick and Grace Arsenault and siblings Margret (Arsenault) Demars, Joseph and John Arsenault and a surviving sister, Theresea (Arsenault) LeBlanc with many nieces and nephews.
A private burial was held on June 24th at Saint Alphonsus cemetery, There will be a celebration of life July 18, 2026 at 2p.m. for all who want to come and share their memories of Isabel Cassell.
