Paul M. Toohey, Jr.

Paul Martin Toohey Jr. passed away peacefully on Monday, February 23, 2026 at Canton Potsdam Hospital, surrounded by the love of his family.

Paul was born on February 5, 1966 at E.J. Noble Hospital in Gouverneur, N.Y. to Paul Toohey Sr. and Lynda Smith Toohey. Paul attended Edwards and Clifton-Fine schools.

Paul worked his whole life in construction. He was best known for his accomplishments in drywalling. Some of his excellent work can be seen in the great hall of the Wild Center.

Paul was an outdoorsman at heart. He loved walking in nature. He could often be found working on dirt bikes and ATVs for his sons and grandchildren. He loved spending time with his family at the family’s camp at Cedar Lake and was most happy surrounded by his friends and family.

Paul was known for a good laugh and giving and loving heart. He was always ready to help anyone in need.

Surviving is his mother, Lynda Smith Toohey; his father and step mother, Paul and Ruth Toohey Sr.; a son, Payton Toohey; sisters, Becky Hubbard, Laurie Payne, Beth Richardson, Trish Gotham, Margie White and Kathy Walrath; brothers, Bryan Richardson, Dan Toohey, Brad Richardson and Mike Toohey; his longtime girlfriend, Stephanie Jackson; sons of his heart, Devin Roberge and Christopher Hober; grandchildren, Neveah, Carlee, Axten, Jayce, Liam, Paxten and Amelia Toohey, Everleigh and Emerson Roberge. Paul is predeceased by his sons, Nathan and Austen Toohey and a daughter, Paige Toohey.
