Donald Alfred Smith, 94

Donald Alfred Smith, 94, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at The Pines of Glens Falls.

Born on September 24, 1931 in Tupper Lake, New York he was the son of Joseph and Amanda (LaRocque) Smith.

Graduating from Holy Ghost Academy, Tupper Lake in 1943. He went on to study at the University Delaware.

Don worked for Queensbury Motors as a Service Manager. Over the years working at Queensbury Motors, he received many awards from General Motors.

He enjoyed cross-country skiing, golfing and testing grapes at the grocery store. Don loved to travel abroad with his wife, Joyce. He spent summers at his camp on Little Wolf Lake, enjoying his whiskey sours.

In addition to his parents Don is predeceased by his brother, Edmond Smith; his son Clifton “Biff”; his brother and sister in-laws, Theresa (Archie) Lapointe and Malon (Anita) LaVaser; his grandson, Maxwell and his mother in-law and father in-law, Clifton and Harriet Bliss.

Survivors include his wife of 74 years Joyce (Bliss) Smith of Glens Falls; his children, James Joseph Smith of South Glens Falls, Jacqueline (Lanny) Bashant of South Glens Falls, Catherine (George) Pulsifer of Greenwich, Jamie Jay of Glens Falls, Donald (Anita) Smith of Portland, Oregon and Caroline Rodgers of Clifton Park; his grandchildren, James, Eric, Troy, Amie, Callista, Janelle, Nicole, Jeri Lee, Lauren, Anastasia, Noelle and Aubrey; many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Don is also survived by his sister in law, Dawn Brochu and brother in-law Clifton (Gigi) Bliss.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held 10 am Monday, February 23, 2026 at St. Mary’s Church, 62 Warren Street, Glens Falls.

Burial will be held at a later date at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
