Allen E. Bishop
Allen E. Bishop passed away at home on October 19, 2022, surrounded by his family. Allen went peacefully, after a long battle with illnesses related to his military service.
Allen was born on October 25, 1949 in Tupper Lake, the youngest son of Leonard Bishop and Lucy Miner. He began his education in Tupper Lake, completing it in Homer, N.Y. where the family had relocated.
Allen was called to duty on March 27th, 1969, where he was enlisted in the US Marine Corps. Allen served his country in the Vietnam War before transferring to the Marine Corps Reserves until ending his military service in March of 1975. Allen was the recipient of five medals during his military service.
On October 5th, 1988, Allen met the love of his life, Lynn Barber of Tupper Lake. They wed on June 25,1994 in Moravia, N.Y. where they combined two families into one, forever.
Their love is evident by the life they built and lived together. Allen was a hard worker, who was employed by Cortland Cable Company for many years. In 2004, they decided to move back to their hometown of Tupper Lake. They opened and operated Al’s taxi, until Allen’s retirement in 2008.
When Allen wasn’t working, you could frequently find him in the woods cutting down trees or along the bank with a fishing pole. On Sundays you’d find him with extended family members for a game of cards. Later in life he enjoyed reading old western books and watching Alaskan TV shows.
He was a strong, dedicated family man and Allen is a hero to his family in many ways.
