Thomas S. Hare, Sr., 76

Dan McClelland

Thomas S. Hare, Sr., age 76, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2022 at home surrounded by his family.

He was born August 1, 1946 to Violet and Clarence Hare of Lake Placid. Thomas joined the Navy at age 17 and served for 10 years as a chef in various locations throughout the world. Upon his return to the states, he worked in various restaurants and middle management positions.

Eventually he decided his place for work was with the Long Lake Central School District as head custodian and bus driver. This was the position he held until his retirement.

During his free time, Tom loved to hunt and fish. If he wasn’t out in the wilderness, he was always working on projects around his home. He was well known in the neighborhood for his “golf course looking lawn” and beautiful gardens.

Thomas was pre-deceased by his parents, his brothers Bud and Bruce, and his sisters Betty, Connie, Joyce, Judy, and Mary Jane.

He is survived by his wife Gloria Hare (LaMare) (Tupper Lake) as well as his first wife Rose Porter (Lewis, N.Y.), his brothers Richard (Lake Placid) and George (Halfmoon, N.Y.); children Deb Gallo and companion Danny Smith (Lewis, N.Y.), Thomas and Lori Hare Jr. (Tullahoma, TN), Sheila Hare (Saranac Lake), Jonathan and Jody Hare (Tullahoma, TN), Dwayne and Joann Larabie (Saranac Lake), Shawn and Diana Larabie (Bulverde, TX), Corey and Kelly Larabie (Columbia, TN), and Matthew and Haylee Hare (Tupper Lake).

Tom is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

The life of Thomas was celebrated at St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church in Tupper Lake on Saturday October 22, 2022 with calling hours from 2-4 pm followed by a mass of remembrance at 4 p.m. Flowers or cards can be sent to St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church, 8 Brentwood Ave, Tupper Lake, NY 12986. Donations may be made in Thomas’ name at High Peaks Hospice.
