Imogene A. Barrett, 84
Imogene A. Barrett, 84, of 15 Church Street, Tupper Lake, peacefully went into eternal rest on Thursday, October 29, 2020 at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.
Imogene was born on December 17, 1935 to John Wallace and Maude (Service) Wallace of Madrid N.Y. She was the youngest of six siblings and one stepbrother.
She lived on the family farm with her six siblings and half-brother until the age of five. With the premature passing of her mother, Imogene and younger siblings were placed for adoption.
She was adopted by Olive and Harry Chapman, of Parishville, N.Y. The family relocated to 6 Boyer Ave. in Tupper where Imogene attended local schools.
On February 27, 1954 Imogene was united in Holy Matrimony to Walter M. Barrett at St. Alphonsus Church with Betty Wilson and Howard Gaudet as witnesses. Rev Mgr. D.J. Brault performed the double ring ceremony.
Imogene and Walter were married for 54 years. Following the passing of her beloved husband Walter on July 12, 2011, Imogene moved to Don Smith's Apartments where she lived happily for nine years, surrounded by many friends who she came to love.
Imogene was known for her enduring faith, her quick wit, and wonderful sense of humor. She had a beautiful collection of crystals that she enjoyed sharing with others.
One of her greatest joys was being reunited with all her siblings later in life and being the director of the Tupper Lake Teen Center from 1976-1977 in which she was affectionately known as “Moose” by the teens.
She served on the Board of Directors for the Massawepie Boy Scout Camp for several years.
Imogene was a member of the National Humane Society and was an avid animal lover, owning many pets during her lifetime.
Imogene was part of the first graduating class for the Tupper lake Ambulance Corp in 1969. She received her emergency first aid technician certification 1970 and went on to serve 16 years, retiring from volunteer service as an EMT II in 1986.
She is predeceased by husband Walter Milson Barrett of Tupper Lake, her daughter Susan Barrett of Nebraska, her brothers John W., George, Charles and sisters Bessie, Dorothy, Florence, Thelma, and adopted brother Edward Chapman.
She is survived by Carol Barrett of Colton, Walter Barrett and wife Carole Duval-Barrett of Tupper Lake, Michael Barrett of Star Lake, and grandchildren Elizabeth Shields, Kansas, Joella Lombardo, Wisconsin, Patrick Barrett of Tupper Lake and Angela Baubella and Emily Chramosta, Nebraska.
She leaves behind too her great grandchildren, Landon, Brooklyn, Trinity, Rachel, AJ, Jayla, Bentley, Elvira and Owen.
A Christian Mass will be held on Friday, November 20 at 2p.m. at St. Alphonsus Church, followed by a graveside burial.
