Lifelong Tupper Lake resident, Alvin G. Cote, age 89, died October 29, 2020, after a brief illness.

A committal service was held at 11a.m. on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, at Frary-Stuart Funeral Home, 24 Cliff Ave, Tupper Lake.

He is survived by his son, Allen Cote and his partner, Ghislaine Striney; his daughter, Carolyn Cote Shea and her husband, David; his granddaughter, Aileen Cote; and his grandson, Patrick Cote. Alvin was predeceased by his wife, Marjorie J. Cote, in 2000.

Mr. Cote was born November 14, 1930, in Tupper Lake, the son of the late Joseph Eugene and Elizabeth (Elsie) M. Cote. Alvin graduated from Holy Ghost Academy in Tupper Lake in 1948.

He served as a caretaker for several Adirondack camps and estates throughout his life, starting his career with the estate of A. A. Low in Horseshoe, N.Y., known as Hitchins Park.

Alvin was a constant learner and avid reader. He loved to discuss his new found knowledge with all who were interested. He was a lifelong collector of Adirondack lore and artifacts. Alvin was something of a local historian, well versed in Tupper Lake and Adirondack region history.

Condolences may be sent to 7 Lindsay Ave., Tupper Lake, N.Y. 12986. In lieu of flowers, Alvin would have appreciated donations to the Adirondack History Museum, 7590 Court Street, P.O. Box 428, Elizabethtown, N.Y. 12932.
