Norma LaLonde, 91

Norma M. LaLonde, age 91, died on June 16, 2026, at the McClure Miller Respite House in Colchester, Vermont, with her daughter by her side, after a 21 year battle with cancer.

She never dreamed she would live that long but she was tough!

Norma was born on March 5, 1935, in Champlain, N.Y., the daughter of Lionel and Mabel (Tallman) Demers and was married in 1952 to Ivan LaLonde and resided in Tupper Lake for 20 years.

Norma was employed as a waitress for many years in Tupper Lake and then operated Gram’s Day Care at her home in Potsdam, N.Y.

In 1996 she relocated to Champlain until moving to McClure Miller. She enjoyed watching game shows, doing scratch-off tickets and eating out!

She was predeceased by her husband in 1983, her parents, her brother and sister-in-law, Stephen and Lora Demers, her brothers Darriel and Leo Demers, her brother-in-law, Conrad LaLonde and his wife, Joan, and her brother-in-law, Glenwood LaLonde.

Norma is survived by her daughter, Dianne Proulx (Thomas) of Glens Falls, N.Y., grandchildren, Braden (Rachel) Proulx and great-granddaughter, Margot Proulx of Horseheads, N.Y., and Vanessa Proulx (James Dewar) of Kingsbury, N.Y.

She is also survived by her brothers, George (Tina) Demers, Clifford (Betty) Demers, Wayne Demers, and Richard (Linda Delaney) Demers; her sisters, Donna (Royce) Clark and Tina (Terry Peryea) Demers; her sisters-in-law Joyce Demers and Doris LaLonde, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A special thanks to the staff at the FitzPatrick Cancer Center, Hospice of the North Country, and the McClure Miller Respite House. The caring and patience given to Mom by the staff is greatly appreciated as she could be feisty!

A Mass of Christian Burial, Internment and a Celebration of Norma’s life will be held this summer at the convenience of the family. Donations in memory of Norma may be made to: St. Mary’s Church, 86 Church Street, Champlain, NY, 12919.
