Janice Pryor
It is with a heavy that Janice Pryor has passed away peacefully on August 13, 2025 and in now with our Lord.
Janice was born and raised in Tupper Lake and graduated from Tupper Lake High School. She was the daughter of George and Loretta McGillis who predeceased her. She was the oldest of five siblings.
Janice married Charles Pryor whom she met while working at the Wawbeek Resort on May 5, 1952. They had six children together.
Janice loved to spend time with her family, she was a homemaker, loved doing crafts, making and decorating cakes, crocheting and knitting. She was an avid fishing woman who also loved camping, was a member of REACT, and the Moose Club. Janice also tendered at local bars for a little extra money and to take a motherhood break when her children got older. She was strong willed and would give her children advice whether they wanted it or not, right to her last days. She was all about family. She truly enjoyed life and will be greatly missed.
Janice is survived by her children whom she loved dearly, her daughters: Jane Benway of Tupper Lake, Helen Thibodeau of Tupper Lake, her son, Brent of Saranac Lake and her daughter Allison of Tupper Lake; Colleen (Leonard) Wilkinson and their children Daemon, Zaccary and “Little” Charlie Sons: David of Tupper Lake, William (Lisa) Benway and children Anthony and Angela of Westville, Pa., James (Diane) Pryor and his daughter Katrina (Patrick) Symonds and their children Dawson and Alyza, Kevin Locke of Diane’s first marriage; Charles (Patricia) Pryor of Garden City, SC and their children Joseph (Kelly) and granddaughter Faye of Westville, Pa., Lawrence Pryor and his sons Michael (Katie) Drasye and their daughter Millie, Jeremy (Elizabeth) Drasye and their daughter Tessa, and the boy’s mother Karen Drasye Brownell.
Janice is also survived by several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
Janice was predeceased by her husband Charles in 1986, one son, Roger who passed away as a child, her brother Carl “Skip” McGillis and two sisters, Theresa Emory and Ruth “Midge” Labrie, and her daughter-in-law Diane Pryor.
Funeral arrangements are in care of the Frary Funeral Home, 24 Cliff Avenue, Tupper Lake. There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 22, 2025 at noon in the St. Alphonsus Cemetery with the Reverend Severinus Tarwoe, officiating.
