Richard J. Murphy

A Funeral Mass for Richard J. Murphy, age 92, of Tupper Lake, will be held on Friday, May 9, 2025, at 2 p.m. at St. Alphonsus Church with Rev. James Teti officiating. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2025, from 3p.m. to 6p.m. at the Frary Funeral Home in Tupper Lake. Burial will take place at St. Alphonsus Cemetery immediately following the Funeral Mass. Mr. Murphy passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, May 3, 2025.

He is survived by his children, Tim Murphy, Jim Murphy, Anne Murphy, Mary Carter and her husband Andrew, and Debbie Johnson and her husband Scott; his grandchildren, Daniel Reil and his wife Robyn, Stacy Bronson and her husband Michael, and Dylan Rex; his great-grandchildren, Oliver, Raphael, and Margot Reil, Barbara Anne and Kya Bronson, Brian Legan and his wife Ciera, and Neo Rex; and his great-great-grandchild, Brian Legan Jr. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, June M. Murphy, and her son, Robert Rex.

Richard was born on May 19, 1932, in Sterlingville, N.Y., the son of the late Amos C. and Mary Hoover Murphy. He worked for AT&T as a telephone installer and lineman for almost 40 years. Richard enlisted in the Army in 1952, serving in the Korean War as Corporal before being honorably discharge in 1954. He met June Pickering when he came to fix her telephone in Star Lake and they were married on October 24, 1995, in Florida.

Richard cherished the time he spent with his family. He enjoyed watching professional baseball and playing in the Northern League in Lake Placid during his younger years. He also liked spending time outdoors, working in his yard and doing small projects.
