Alfreda Aseel Bradt, 87
Dan McClelland
Alfreda Aseel Bradt, 87, passed away peacefully in Sarasota, Florida on February 23, 2024.
She was affectionately known as Freda to family and friends.
Freda was born to Alfred and Fadwa Aseel in Tupper Lake on June 1, 1936.
She was predeceased by her parents, siblings, John, Adele, Alfred and most recently by her husband of 61 years, Charlie.
Freda leaves behind her loving children- Camille Marchese and John, both of Sarasota.
She was a loving and devoted “Sitti” to her two grandchildren, Isabella and Joseph Marchese of Albany, and a treasured sister to Ellen (Camil) Maroun of Tupper Lake and Linda (Joe) Kahn of Ausable Forks. Grieving her loss with them, are many nieces and nephews, who will dearly miss their fun loving and beloved Aunt Freda. Along with her family, Freda leaves a host of friends, who with her family were privileged to share in what will long be remembered as her “splendid table” and unrivaled hospitality.
Freda and her husband Charlie made their life and raised their family in Canton, where she taught school leaving a mark of positivity and “can do” attitude with students and colleagues alike. Her warmth and joyful spirit were her trademark gifts, easily opening a door to creating a wonderful circle of friendships. A lifelong devotee of yoga, exercise and all things wellness, she and her dear friend Betty Chadwick established and operated a first ever work-out gym for ladies in Canton.
She was deeply involved in the early efforts to establish Hospice of St. Lawrence County; and served with distinction on the Foundation Board of her alma mater Potsdam State College.
Shortly after retirement, she worked with the Syracuse Symphony, helping to bring the beauty of orchestra music to regions throughout the North Country.
Freda was vibrant through each and every phase of her life, including the last several years when faced with serious illness. Her love of laughter, picturesque storytelling, and creative good times were well known, shared, enjoyed, and loved by many. An avid reader, consummate gardener, volunteer, chef “par excellence,” and feet first” involvement in community and civic affairs, were admired by all who knew her. Yet, she would most want to be remembered for her compassion for others, and, deep love of family and friends.
According to her wishes, burial will take place in Tupper Lake later this summer, at a date to be determined by the family.
