Obituaries

William “Bill” Turner, 80

Dan McClelland

William (Bill) Turner, age 80, of Tupper Lake, passed away on Friday, September 27, 2024, at Highland Hospital in Rochester, N.Y. with his daughter by his side.

The family wishes to invite family and friends for a Celebration of Life from 3p.m. to 5p.m. at Trail’s End here on Saturday, October 26, 2024. Graveside services will be held privately at the convenience of the family in St. Alphonsus Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Frary Funeral Home, Tupper Lake.

Bill is survived by his daughter, Margo Bogart and her husband, Hank and granddaughter Sage Butler, of Marion, N.Y.; a brother, Errol Turner and his wife, Letan, of Jacksonville, FL; and numerous family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Leo Dudley and Viola Turner; siblings, Daniel Turner, Timothy D. Turner, Leo Turner, and Francis (Frank) Turner.

Born in Saranac Lake on May 18, 1944, Bill was the son of Leo Dudley and Viola Evelynn (Ducatt) Turner. He graduated from St. Bernard’s School in Saranac Lake.

Bill in his younger days worked at Fish Creek doing odds and ends. He also worked harvesting ice from Mirror Lake to line the luges in Lake Placid. In his early 80’s he started at Sunmount DDSO in Tupper Lake and retired as a supervisor over forty years later. From there he became a “snow bird” and lived six months of the year in Brooksville, FL.

After retiring from Sunmount, he found joy in splitting and stacking wood alongside his dear friend Bruce Gonyea, and he often frequented the Trail's End, where he shared countless stories and good times with friends. Bill cherished his winter home in Brooksville, FL, where "tottie time" with his many friends brought him great joy.

An avid golfer, his enthusiasm for the game was only matched by his incredible sense of humor and a laugh that could light up any room. A truly great man, William touched the lives of many with his warm words and vibrant personality; he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
