James (Jim) Lemieux, 76

Dan McClelland

James Lee (Jim) Lemieux, 76, of Tupper Lake, peacefully joined his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in his eternal home on Sunday, October 6, 2024, surrounded by family and friends.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Lake Placid Baptist Church on Saturday, November 2 at a time to be announced. Arrangements are under the direction of Frary Funeral Home, Tupper Lake, NY.

Jim was born December 16, 1947 in Tupper Lake, son of the late Joseph and Margaret (Zengewald) Lemieux.

He was a 1966 graduate of Tupper Lake High School where he was a star on the track field and the ski slope. In 1968, he enlisted in the United States Navy and was stationed in Europe and the Mediterranean Sea as well as Guantanamo Bay until his honorable discharge in 1971. After his service in the Navy, Jim returned home to Tupper Lake where he worked as a Union Carpenter and then as a self-employed general contractor until his death.

On August 17, 1991, he married the love of his life, Alice Lemieux (Krehl). Jim and Alice had an amazing life over their 33 years, traveling the world, taking mission trips to Central America, and spending time outdoors.

He loved the Adirondacks and was an avid skier and hiker, becoming a 46'er at the age of 64, and enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.

They took great pleasure in boating, riding their motorcycles, and most of all, spending time with family and friends. Jim was an amazing guitar player and spent many nights playing and singing with his band, '60 Shades, in and around Long Lake, and also at the Lake Placid Baptist Church where he was a very active member.

Jim's strength, passion for life and hard work, sense of humor, and his dedication to his family and friends will be deeply missed by all.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Alice, his daughter Danielle (LaFave) and her partner Peter Dwyer of Selkirk, N.Y.; his son James Lemieux and his partner Nasha Hathaway of Copley, OH; his beloved grandchildren, Alexander and Joshua LaFave and Mia and Tyler Lemieux; his brother Joseph (Skip) Lemieux (Rosemary), sister Carol King, several nieces and nephews, and his beautiful golden retriever Faith who was always by his side. He was predeceased by his parents and three brothers, Richard (Cheryl), Wayne (Julie), and Michael Lemieux.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and staff of High Peaks Hospice for the excellent and compassionate care given to Jim and the entire family during this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to High Peaks Hospice, 309 County Route 47, Suite 3, Saranac Lake, NY 12983.
