Peter LaMere Sr.
Dan McClelland
Peter Allen LaMere Sr. passed away in Sebring, Florida on Wednesday April 24, 2019.
True to character, he stubbornly fought through a combination of illnesses that would easily kill a less determined man. He was tough and determined through and through, from his days being late for school checking beaver traps and working and hunting with his brothers in the Adirondacks.
He carried that attitude serving as a military policeman in Vietnam, 16 years as a police officer across all of Alaska and eventually returning to Tupper Lake for 18 years in various law enforcement roles.
He was married to his high school sweetheart, Jean Prenoveau, for 51 years (rounding by two months).
He is survived by his daughter Tracy Sparks, who followed him into public service, his son Pete Jr., who followed him into the Army, and grandchildren Brandon (regrettably got his hairline), Alexis (got his abrasive attitude), Trevor (got his love for fishing), and Parker (looks just like him).
His late parents Fred and Beverly built the Trail's End complex in Tupper Lake and he is survived by siblings Ruth, Bob, Patricia, Fred, and Anne.
For the many who knew Pete LaMere, he and the family fondly remember all the love, support, and time spent with friends (and enemies) in the community.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 15 at the Presbyterian Cemetery with a gathering at the VFW to follow.
