Martin J. "Matt" Kavey,  passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday April 20, 2017. He was 86.
He was cared for by his nephew Mike Yaworski, and eventually was under the care of High Peaks Hospice.
He was born on December 10, 1930 in Pittsfield, Mass, to Martin and Emily Brombach Kavey. He received degrees from both NCCC in 1971 and in 1976 from SUNY Empire.
He servedin the Navyfrom 1950-1953 during the Korean War andthen enlisted in the Air Force from 1957 - 1961.
In 1962 he joined the New York State Police and served thereuntil his retirement in 1982. Mr. Kavey was a member of the Knights of Columbus and theV.F.W. and had been an avid outdoorsman, as well asa pilot of smaller aircraft.
He was married to Barbara Yaworski on June 13, 1964 at Holy Name ParishThey have two daughters, Alicia Oro and her husband James of Columbia, MD and Marcia Kavey of Ft. Collins, CO, and one grandson, Ethan Oro of Columbia, MD. He is survived by one sister Evelyn Trembley and her husband Paul of Pittsfield, MA as well as many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by one brother, Raymond Kavey, of Pittsfield, Mass.
Arrangements have been made with the Stuart-Fortune-Keough funeral home in Tupper Lake. Services will be announced at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to High Peaks Hospice.
