Dan McClelland
Aluva May Marconi, 93, passed away at Prestonwood Rehabilitation Hospital in Plano, Texas on October 12, 2016.
A resident of Tupper Lake until 2005, Lou, as she was known to everyone, was born at Mercy General Hospital on July 6, 1923, to Albert and Rose Gauthier Brooks.
Lou graduated from Holy Ghost Academy as co-valedictorian of the class of 1941. Directly from high school, she started work as a bookkeeper for John B. Goff, a local optometrist. From 1942 until 1946, she worked as bookkeeper and office manager for Martin Brothers Grocery.
She married Alexander A. Marconi of Herkimer, N.Y. on January 19, 1947. They settled in Tupper Lake and raised three children: David, Stephen and Anne.
From 1950 until 1952, Lou worked for the Village of Tupper Lake. Then in 1952, Lou started her 49-year career with the Town of Altamont, first as a bookkeeper for the town supervisor, then as town clerk until retiring in 2001 at the age of 78.
Lou loved her jobs at the village and town offices and loved serving the people of Tupper Lake.
Lou loved her family above all. Her top priority and pride were her three children, three grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. Her interests after retirement were crossword puzzles, oil painting, reading, walking, hosting family dinners and keeping a lovely home. Prior to her move to Texas in 2005, Lou also enjoyed volunteering at the Food Pantry in Tupper Lake.
Lou is survived by son David and his wife, Karen of Keller, TX; son Stephen and his wife, Lila of Griffin, GA; and daughter, Anne Butler and her husband Mark of McKinney, TX; granddaughters: Beth Worman and husband Sam, Lynn Poston and husband Bryan, and Erica Retrosi Pealer and husband Benjamin; five great grandchildren, Megan, Jordan, Lauren, Bryson and Christian; a special nephew, James Brooks and his wife Pauline; a special niece, Maryanne Brooks Armstrong and her husband George; and many cousins and great grand-nieces and nephews.
Lou was predeceased by her husband Alex on August 29, 1964, her father Albert Brooks, her mother Rose Brooks, her brother Homer and sister-in-law Mary Brooks, and a special niece, Roseanne Brooks Smith.
A farewell service for the family was held in Grapevine, Texas on Saturday, October 15, 2016. A memorial service will be held next July in Tupper Lake.
