GOP announces caucuses for fall elections
by Dan McClelland
The election season is upon us...even though November and its general election seems a ways off.
The first party to announce its caucus for the fall elections is the Republican Party.
Caucus Chairwoman Mary Fontana announced that on Monday, June 30 both the village and town committees will caucus at the Emergency Services Building on Santa Clara Ave. The village GOP members will go first at 6p.m. and the town Republican committee will commence its caucus one half hour later at 6:30 p.m..
The local Republicans have used the public service building for their caucuses in recent years.
The offices up for grabs in the village elections in November are the mayor, two trustee positions (all two-year terms) and for village justice and the balance Justice Chris Delair’s position. Mr. Delair retired from his long-time post early this year. There are two years left on that term. (See related story this week).
Mayor Mary Fontana said this week she intends to run for another term at the June 30 caucus.
In the town, the offices of town supervisor, a four-year term currently held by Rickey Dattola, and two trustee posts (currently held by Rick Donah and John Gillis) are up for grabs. All three town posts are for four-year terms.
