Helen M. “Peg” Cole, 82
Helen M. “Peg” Cole 82, of Constable and formally of Tupper Lake, passed away on April 18, 2025 at the Champlain Valley Hospital in Plattsburgh with her family by her side. Calling hours for Peg will be on Friday, April 25 at Frary Funeral Home, 24 Cliff Ave. in Tupper Lake from 2p.m. to 6p.m. with a prayer service to be held at 4p.m. with Reverend James Teti officiating. Burial will be held at Holy Name Cemetery on May 3, 2025 at 11a.m.
Peg was born on June 9, 1942 one of eleven children, to the late Ralph and Julia (Miller) Russell in Tupper Lake. She graduated from Tupper Lake High School in 1960 with the quote “virtue is to herself the best reward.”
Peg then went on to study at the Watertown School of Business. On September 28, 1963 Helen married lifelong friend, Irvin Cole Sr. in Tupper Lake and were happily married for 56 years until he passed in 2019.
Together they raised their four children in Tupper Lake; David, Irvin Jr (Bud), Julie and Russell.
Peg then, in 1988 went to work at Bay Pond Park in Paul Smiths as a private house keeper for the Rockerfeller family. This was her heart and soul until 2008 when Irvin Sr. retired and they moved to Constable. With moving there, she found a new passion as a cook at Rapids at the Akwesasne Casino. Peg loved to bake, to be outside in the nice weather and work on her flower beds and garden, to fish and hunt, play bingo and was a member of a lady’s bowling league on Friday and on Sunday her and Irvin would bowl in the mixed league at the Barnsider Lanes (now Tupper Lake’s Lakeview Lanes) for many years.
Peg is survived by her four children; David (Laura), Bud (Tammy), Julie, and Russell (Christine), ten grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, her brothers; Michael Russell of Tupper Lake and Thomas Russell of Colonie, two sisters; Nancy Green of Waltham, MA, and Sioux Collier of Tupper Lake, along with many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, her parents, three brothers; Billy, Ralph, and John, three sisters; Sally Poirier, Grace Grammo and Irene Russell.
