Micheline Root, 99
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Micheline Root on December 14, 2024 at the age of 99 at Richmond, VA. Surrounded by love, she left this world as gracefully as she lived it, leaving behind a legacy of strength, generosity, and beauty.
Micheline was born on May 22, 1925, in Mairie de La Landelle, France, the daughter of Gaston and Germaine Duforestel, and one of five siblings.
She resided in Paris until she met her husband Dennis Root, in a post-World War II Paris, at the US Embassy where he was assigned with the Army and she worked as a translator.
She married Dennis on September 9, 1954 and they made their home on numerous military bases around the United States until Dennis retired in 1965 and they moved to his hometown of Tupper Lake, New York. They lived and raised their family there for five decades.
Micheline cultivated a life rich in love and purpose. She was a woman of deep Christian faith. Her greatest joys were her family, her friends, and her beloved garden. Micheline poured her heart into raising her children and was an active and loving presence in their lives. She spent countless hours in her yard and gardens, where she transformed every space she touched into something vibrant and full of life.
In the 1960’s, Micheline worked at the downtown dress factory, then at the OWD and Major Rod. Additionally, she worked at Sunmount Development Center for many years.
Micheline is survived by her children, John Root of New Ipswich, New Hampshire, and Daniel Root of Richmond, Virginia; four grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband, Dennis Root; her daughter, Marianne (Root) Corneau; her granddaughter, Michelle Corneau; and her grandson, Joseph Corneau.
Micheline will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, and will forever live on in the hearts of her family and friends. A celebration of Micheline’s life will be held in the summer of 2025. May she rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the beauty she so dearly loved.
