Margaret M. Benware, 77

On May 2, 2024, our beloved mother, Margaret M. Benware, passed away at home surrounded by loved ones. She was 77 years old. She was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer in mid-February, then soon after was told it was in her bones and stomach. She was determined to fight this beast called cancer and she fought hard until she took her last breath.

Margaret was born on March 10, 1947 in Tupper Lake.

Margaret is survived by son Richard, her daughter Tracey and her son-in-law James Walrath; her brothers Robert and Gene Becker; her grandchildren Jason M. Benware, Maizie Gonyea and Alivea Benware; her great grandchildren, Jason J. Benware, Jaelynn Benware and Lyric Gonyea; several brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews; as well as many others who touched her life.

Margaret married the love of her life Richard R. Benware in December of 1971, who sadly passed away on July 12, 1998. She was predeceased in death by her parents Herbert and Margarat Becker, her sisters Dorothy Spinner and Rose Shaheen; her brothers Albert and Charles Becker; as well as cherished sisters-in-laws, brothers-in- laws, nieces and nephews. Margaret was one of a kind. Anyone who had the chance to know her absolutely loved and adored her. Her family is sure she is in heaven with their father. She meant so much to so many and she will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Calling hours will be held at the Frary Funeral Home, 24 Cliff Avenue in Tupper Lake, from 5 to 7p.m. on May 9. A funeral service is scheduled at St. Alphonsus Church on Friday, May 10 at 11 a.m. and will be immediately followed by a graveside burial ceremony at St. Alphonsus Cemetery. There will be a reception following at the VFW in Tupper Lake. If anyone would like to donate food for the reception, it can be dropped off at the VFW Thursday afternoon or Friday morning.
