Janet M. Hodge, 86

Dan McClelland

Janet M. Hodge, 86, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Tuesday, December 26, 2023 at her home with her family by her side. Born August 27, 1937 in Tupper Lake, she was the daughter of the late Eldrick John and Blanche Auclair Gauthier. Her beloved husband, Evan E. Hodge, whom she married on September 5, 1959, preceded her in death on May 2, 2019.

Janet graduated from Albany Business College and was employed as a secretary at General Electric. She was later employed as an administrative assistant and Director of Religious Education at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in College Park, MD and Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Stowe, VT. She also dedicated much of her time to making a home for her family. Janet enjoyed doing crossword and sudoku puzzles. She also enjoyed reading, sketching and spending time at her cabin in the Adirondacks.

She is survived by her children, Joel Hodge Sr. of Hilton Head, SC, Leslie Field (husband Christopher) of Fayetteville, PA, Christopher Hodge (wife Betty) of Sykesville, MD, and Lara Flanagan (husband Christopher), of Rhinebeck, NY; twelve grandchildren; five great-grandchildren with two more on the way; and her sister, Patricia Mitchell of Tupper Lake. Aside from her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Kimberly Whitehurst.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Fr. Dominic M. DiBiccaro at 1p.m. on Friday, February 9, 2024 at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church, 1095 Church Road, Orrtanna, PA 17353. Interment will follow at the adjoining church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service. Arrangements are entrusted to the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg, PA.
