Steven Roy Brooks, 54

Steven Roy Brooks, 54, of Gainesville, Florida, died Saturday, March 4, 2023, in the E. T. York Hospice Care Center, following a long illness.

Mr. Brooks was born in Saranac Lake, on January 12, 1969; he grew up in Tupper Lake, New York, and graduated from Tupper Lake High School, Class of 1987, where he excelled in basketball, football, and baseball. Following graduation, he enrolled at the University of South Carolina under an ROTC scholarship. He then joined the U. S. Army, and proudly served until his retirement.

Steven moved to Gainesville in 2015, where he was a very active member of The Rock of Gainesville, serving in many different ministries, including the Circle of Champions, and taking numerous mission trips to South America.

He is survived by his wife, Luz Brooks; his son, Dylan Patrick Brooks, of Spartanburg, SC; his parents, James and Pauline Brooks, of Ocala; his brothers, James Brooks, of Alaska, and Craig Brooks, of Martha’s Vineyard, MA; an aunt, Mary Anne (George) Armstrong of Booneville, N.Y., along with numerous cousins.

A celebration of Steven’s life was be held on Thursday, March 9, 2023, at at The Rock of Gainesville, 10901 West Newberry Road, Gainesville, with Pastor George Brantley and Pastor Ron Hyatt, officiating.
