Charles P. Baker Jr., 93, of Tupper Lake, passed away on November 22, 2023 at Adirondack Medical Center after a short illness, surrounded by family.

Calling hours will be at the Frary Funeral Home, 24 Cliff Avenue, Tupper Lake, NY on Wednesday November 29, 2023 from 9:30a.m. to 11:30a.m. At 11a.m. there will be a ceremony by the Pilgrims of the Moose, followed by mass of Catholic Burial at St Alphonsus Church in Tupper Lake at noon.

Charlie was born in Tupper Lake to Irene Baker (Lalonde) and Charles P Baker Sr. on December 18, 1929. He graduated from Tupper Lake High School in 1947 and in 1956, he married Alice Dukett from Saranac Lake and they had three children.

A hard worker, Charlie worked on the golf course while in high school with his Dad and later worked at the Draper Corporation plant, sawing logs and making bobbins for the textile industry. He remained there through the many sales and name changes until the plant finally closed. Also during this time, he was caretaker for up to 14 private camps on Tupper Lake and in his “free time” he also sold CB radios.

After leaving the sawmill, he went back to his roots and returned to working at the Tupper Lake Country Club where he was employed until they would not hire him back at age 80. During this time he was very active in the Tupper Lake Moose Club where he held many offices including District 8 President. He was also recognized by earning the highest degree, Pilgrim Degree. He was an avid hunter who kept the freezer full.

Charlie is survived by his wife of 67 years, Alice Baker (Dukett); son, Charles J Baker Sr. of Medina, N.Y.; and daughter, Linda Tyo of Canton, along with 10 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren along with a brother-in-law, Ed Dukett of Saranac Lake; and Sister-in Law, Mary Besaw of Plattsburgh, NY and several nieces and nephews. His death was preceded by his brother, Ozie Baker and daughter Alice Baker.

Donations in Charlie’s memory may be made to the Tupper Lake Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 901, Tupper Lake, or to the Tupper Lake Fire Department, P.O. Box 849, Tupper Lake.
