Remembering the life and legacy of Chief Myron LaMora.

Myron LaMora of Barling, Arkansas passed away Friday, January 31, 2020 at the age of 78. He was born February 21, 1941 to Alton and Dorothy (Lydmore) LaMora in Tupper Lake, New York.

Myron wore many hats in life: father, brother, partner, and boss. His greatest love was law enforcement. He served with several agencies over the span of his 35- year career.

He began in 1973 as a Hackett City Marshall followed by 10 years as a criminal investigator for the Sebastian County Sheriff's Department. He spent 16 years with Barling Police Department working his way through the ranks where he retired as Chief. His last role was as the Assistant Chief of Police for the Arkansas Military Department before permanently retiring in 2009.

He is survived by his brother, Roger LaMora, his children; Sharron LaMora, Judi Abbott, Tracy Elbaitari, Karen Skinner, Matthew LaMora and Lisa Lemonds, nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Apart from Law enforcement his hobbies were fast cars, guns and younger women. He said this quote by Ernest Hemmingway was completely true for him, "Certainly there is no hunting like the hunting of man and those who have hunted armed men long enough and like it, never really care for anything else thereafter. You will meet them doing various things with resolve, but that interest rarely holds because after the other thing ordinary life is as flat as the taste of wine when the taste buds have been burned off the tongue."

Per his request, Myron will be interred with his family at the Holy Name Cemetery in Tupper Lake, New York at a later date. A memorial service was held Saturday, February 8, 2020 from 2-4 pm at Central Christian Church at 400 N Waldron Rd in Fort Smith. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his name at Kitties and Kanines in Fort Smith. To place an online tribute, go to www.lewisfuneralchapel.net
