Dorothy McCarthy Brennan passed away at her home in Stephenson, Virginia on Sunday, June 2, 2019 at the age of 85.
She was born in Yonkers, N.Y. on July 30, 1934.
She moved to Tupper Lake at the age of nine and attended Holy Ghost Academy. She graduated from Tupper Lake High School in 1951.
She then attended the University of Rochester on scholarship and earned a bachelor of science degree in nursing in 1955.
In April of 1956 she married James Brennan at St. Alphonsus Church.
She earned a masters degree in Mathematics from George Mason University.
She lived in Detroit, Michigan, Frankfurt, Germany, London, England; and Vienna, VA.
Dorothy kissed the Blarney Stone, walked the Great Wall of China, watched the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace, saw the Berlin Wall go up and explored ancient Italy.
She worked as a nurse at the National Institute of Health in Washington, DC during the first years of the AIDs epidemic.
Dorothy lost her devoted husband in 2017.
She is survived by six children: Kathy, Betsy, Bill, Jim, Mike and Jen, five grandchildren, and one brother, Tom McCarthy of Tupper Lake, N.Y.
