David Carpenter was born April 9, 1938 in Gloversville, N.Y. He was the son of the late Clarence and Kathleen Potter Carpenter.
He was a graduate of Schuylerville Central School. He married Dixie LaVoy on August 23, 1959 at the Visitation Church in Schuylerville.  He served with the US Air Force from 1961-1965, and retired from the New York State Police BCI in 1990.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Will (Dee) LaVoy; two nephews, Tim and Jeff LaVoy; and aunts and uncles.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 58 years, Dixie Carpenter; special nephew and caregiver, Louis Flanders Jr. (Tena) and their children, Morgan and David (his best buddy); as well as many other beloved nieces and nephews.  He is also survived by many cousins, including Patty Hubert and her family of South Carolina and Fran Aldrich and his family of Massachusetts; three brothers-in-law, Lou (Laurie) Flanders, Ken Flanders, and Paul (Kathy) Flanders; his extended family in Tupper Lake, Rodger (Jen) Aldridge and their girls; Dave’s canine companion, Gabby; and many other close friends.
There will be no calling hours.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 12 noon, Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.
Memorial donations can be made in his name to the Northshore Animal League of America, 16 Lewyt St., Port Washington, NY 11050.
