Shirley Marie Traynor passed away comfortably at her home in Long Lake, surrounded by her loving family, on June 22, 2017 following a brief illness.
Born on September 30, 1931 in Adams, N.Y. she was the eldest of five children born to Ross and Marie (McIntosh) Wagner. She graduated from Adams Central School in 1949 as Valedictorian. She received her BA at SUNY Albany and her Master’s in Education from SUNY Plattsburgh.
She taught for over 30 years at several schools including Brasher Falls, Schroon Lake, Edwards, Newcomb and Long Lake Central School.
Shirley was married to James Traynor from June 28, 1958 until June 25, 1990 and Lewis Wright from October 26, 1998 to June 25, 2006. Both husbands predeceased her.
Survivors include several children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, one brother, one sister and many nieces and nephews.
Shirley was also predeceased by one son, one daughter, one brother and one sister.
Shirley was active in her church, St. Henry’s, and many volunteer organizations including Hospice. She donated faithfully to several charities and was involved in packaging Christmas boxes for children overseas, supporting an Indian nation of children.
She particularly loved reading, knitting, jigsaw puzzles and socializing with her girlfriends.
In keeping with Shirley’s wishes, there are no calling hours scheduled.
A memorial service will be conducted at a date and time to be announced.
