Raymond Leon DeGone, 69, joined his family in heaven on Tuesday, October 18, 2016.
Born December 9, 1946 he was the son of Leon and Edna DeGone of Tupper Lake.
He attended Tupper Lake Schools and received his GED before enlisting in the Army in September of 1967.
Ray served with distinction during the Vietnam war, receiving the National Defense Service medal, the Vietnam Service medal, the Vietnam Campaign medal, the Army Occupation medal as well as Sharpshooter M-16 and Combat Infantry badges. He was formally discharged with full honors in September of 1973.
Ray then went on to work for CEL Lumber, the Blue Mountain Museum, Bloomingdale Sewage Plant and finally retired from Sunmount DDSO's Maintenance Department.
Ray is survived by his beloved wife, Mary (Bradley), son and daughter-in-law Mark and Tina Bradley, daughter Sheila Duchaine, and grandchildren Brandon, Logan, Dylan and Amber. He is also survived by sisters Genevieve (Burt) Simpson, Shirley (Ronnie) Godin, Rose Marie (Edward) Morrow as well as sister-in-law, Ann DeGone. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
He was predeceased by his brother, Robert.
Calling hours were held on Sunday October 23 at the Stuart Fortune Keough Funeral home in Tupper Lake. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Monday, October 24 at St. Alphonsus Church and burial with full military honors followed at the St. Alphonsus cemetery.
A gathering was held immediately after at the Edmund Bujold VFW Post 3120 in Tupper Lake.
Memorial contributions in Raymond's name may be made to Disabled Veterans Organization or for Cancer research.
