Board willing to hear more from Foster Grandparents leader

Leaders of the Foster Grandparents program, Vivian Smith and Melissa Howard are expected to do a follow-up presentation from an early one at the March Board of Education meeting.

At February’s board meeting Superintendent of Schools Jaycee Welsh told the members the Foster Grandparent presenters were hoping that they could come back to brief the board on more of the positive attributes of their program.

Seniors who work within the Foster Grandparents program work in the local schools, helping students and teachers where they can.

The purpose of the earlier meeting was to encourage the school district leaders in restoring the free lunches the program participants used to receive before this school year.

“I think there was some miscommunication about the purpose of the earlier presentation.
So they wanted me to ask the board if it would like them to come back to highlight the many positives and its seniors do in the school district every school day.

Board members informally indicated they would be willing to hear more from the two local ladies who direct the program.
