Tri-Lakes Humane Society announces fifth annual ADK Bark in the Park event and fundraiser here

Join the Tri-Lakes Humane Society on Sunday September 21 from 12p.m. to 4p.m. at the Tupper Lake Waterfront Park for another unforgettable day of fun and festivities which will help underwrite some of the many services that they provide in our area to help pets and their owners.

While shelter officials and volunteers are thrilled to host their annual ADK Bark in the Park, they are also navigating critical changes that will impact the shelter’s future. New state regulations going into effect this December require major facility upgrades in order for them to remain open and compliant.

They received a $500,000 grant to begin addressing these mandates, but it is not nearly enough. They urgently need to raise an additional $500,000 to complete the required work and keep the shelter running. Without funding, they risk falling short of compliance and putting their operations and the animals they care for in jeopardy.

By attending ADK Bark in the Park, residents are directly supporting their mission and helping them meet New York States new criteria. They truly need our community’s help now more than ever.

Whether you have a pet or not, there is something for everyone so come and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere. Organizers say bring a chair, dance and soak in the live music by “Double Axel” from noon to 3p.m. There will be delicious food offerings from food trucks and free popcorn. Indulge in a variety of beer, wine, and hard seltzers and for those under 21 years of age there will be soda and water.

The event features exciting activities for both people and pets. People activities include a professional caricature artist Joe Ferris (free with paid admission – first come first serve basis), meet and greet with USA Women’s National Bobsledder Jasmine Jones and other members of the team, performance by Vestopia Hoops, variety of local artisan vendors and more.

There will also be two raffles which include a local business gift card/certificate basket and a “New Baby from the Dog of the House” basket. People can buy raffle tickets at the event or ahead of the event by calling the shelter at 518-891-0017 or they can stop by the shelter at 255 George H Lapan Memorial Highway, Saranac Lake, NY.  Tickets are one for $5 or five for $20.  You do not need to be present to win. Raffle winners will be drawn around 3p.m.

Pet activities include a Blessing of the Animals (around 1:30p.m), a pet costume contest (around 1:40p.m.), dog agility course and demonstrations by the Adirondack High Peaks Dog Training Club, a dog walk along the beautiful park waterfront, pet grooming station, pet photo station, and various vendors with pet specific products. Pet owners can also get your pet micro chipped for free from 1:00-3:00pm but you must pre-register online and be one of the first 25.

The sponsors of the event are the Adirondack Regional Federal Credit Union, Able Abe Diversified Services, Mitchell Stone Products, Wilkins Insurance, Critters, Long Run Wealth Advisors, and North Country Savings Bank. The Credit Union is again the main sponsor of the event, as it has been in recent years.

Tickets are $15 each or two for $25, with free admission for children 12 and under. Each ticket includes one free beer, wine or hard seltzer (for guests 21 and over) or non-alcoholic beverage, plus a treat. The first 100 people to pre-register will receive a custom tote bag filled with extra goodies including an ADK Bark in the Park baseball hat, coupons to local merchants , free microchipping (for the first 25), and more.

All proceeds benefit the Tri-Lakes Humane Society. Aside from town contracts, Tri-Lakes Humane Society depends solely on donations. Many fundraisers are planned each year to help the shelter to receive the resources needed to continue providing for the animals in their care.
