Kubricky returns for start of second year on big DOT job through town
by Dan McClelland
Kubricky Construction crews are back in town this week set to begin year two of the state Department of Transportation's major road reconstruction project on Routes 3 and 30 through the uptown business district.
Although several of the machine operators were set to start Monday, that morning's heavy snow pushed back any work until yesterday.
According to DOT Engineer Tom Maroun, who is overseeing the project again this year, the crews will be working this week on Wawbeek Ave. from Arden to Park- continuing work that began last year.
He said Kubricky employees will also be excavating the western section of High Street next to Stewart's doing water line tie ins to the new mains that Kubricky installed along Park Street from Wawbeek to Mill last fall.
This year's work, among other things, will involve reconstruction of the balance of Wawbeek Ave. to the intersection of Park Street and then all of the business district easterly to the top of the hill adjacent to the high school. Part of that road construction will involve extensive blasting to remove the crown of the hill of Park St. near Cheney Ave. for the improvement of site distances there.
Last year the state purchased small front portions of many of the residencesalong Park Street from Cheney to McLaughlin to reconfigure driveways and curbing and such as part of the road surface lowering.
